Diagnosis!

We had Brianna's vision appointment today. I am so excited! We've had her eyes checked before, but this exam was for her overall vision. Her eyesight is fine, but she definitely has a vision perception problem...and, the doctor said that it can be fixed through therapy!!!! After years of struggle and frustration, we finally have some answers! Brianna is almost as happy as I am! She finally knows that it's not her! She's not "stupid" or "dumb." There is a reason for the problems she's been having! We go back Thursday morning for more in-depth testing. Then, there will be a parent conference where we'll discuss how to proceed. How to proceed will, most likely, be vision therapy which isn't cheap and which our insurance won't cover, but I DON'T CARE!!! I am just so happy to finally know what the problem is and for someone to be able to help Brianna.

From what I was told today, it appears that her problems are visual and not the true neurological dyslexia, which can't be "fixed." The further testing will show exactly what problems Brianna does have, including any possible auditory processing problems, for which we would be referred somewhere else -- at more expense, so I hope there aren't problems there, too. Though I wouldn't be surprised, given all the ear infections and allergy problems she's had

After the eye exam, our day was pretty routine. My in-laws kept Josh and Meg while I took Brianna to the doctor. After they left, I fixed us some pizza rolls for lunch. We got started with our seatwork around 1:00. We had just finished our Bible lesson when I realized that I hadn't gotten our chicken and dumplings in the crock pot. So, while Brianna did her grammar on her own, I had Josh and Megan spell words for me on the fridge with magnetic letters.

Then, everyone did their math work and we went to the couch for reading. I had Josh and Megan read a bit from the first SSRW book. They did pretty good with it. Then, we read some of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. By then, it was time to leave since I had to drop some things off at a couple of different friends' houses on the way to Brianna's AHG meeting. It was such a pretty day, that I sat outside and read a bit while Josh and Megan played during the meeting. From there, it was straight to the ball field for Brianna's practice where we found out that she'll be playing in a tournament this weekend. Ugh!

Then, it was home for supper. In addition to the chicken and dumplings, I had bread in the bread machine. Yum! Now, I'm just ready for bed!

Oh, Mary -- yes, I just search the library's on-line catalog for the books for our unit studies. The library is generally the first place I start, then, I build on the unit from there.
