No, these are much better.
They're probably more like a big calzone, but we started calling them pizza rolls since that's what they call them at CiCi's Pizza, where we first had them. They are so simple and everyone loves them. Brian even complained this week that I never make them at night. I thought that was kind of funny since he never says that about the pizza we have once a week for lunch. I guess there's just something tastier looking about a dressed up pizza roll.
Usually, I reserve my "step-by-step" posts for crafts, but, hey, everyone can use a good post with pictures of food from time to time. You might even enjoy letting the kids make you lunch sometime.
You need:
- 1 jar of pizza sauce (about 2 cups, if you make your own)
- 2 refrigerated pizza crusts (or, you know, you could be industrious -- and probably a bit healthier -- and make your own)
- 2 cups of mozzarella cheese
- (optional) 1 cup or so of cheddar cheese
- 1 Tablespoon or so of melted butter and a little garlic salt and oregano to sprinkle on top
Step 1: Roll out the refrigerated pizza dough:
Step 2: Top half of the roll with 1/2 jar of pizza sauce and about 1 cup of cheese (I like to mix mozzarella and cheddar), leaving room at the edges to form the seal:
Step 3: Fold over the untopped half of the dough and press the edges to seal:
