Works for Me Wednesday: Thanksgiving Meals Solutions

>> Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Since Brian and I married, seventeen years ago, we've gone to his family's for Thanksgiving at noon and my family's for dinner. It works out well except for getting my dinner contributions to my family's house warm and ready to serve, since we go to their house straight from Brian's family's.

I figured out the perfect solution for us several years ago. I put the dishes together the night before -- a sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole and two cheesecakes -- but don't bake them (well, I bake the cheesecakes). Then, I cover them with foil, write the cooking times and temps on the foil with a Sharpie marker and deliver them to my mom's. That way, she can just toss them in her oven when she's ready on Thanksgiving Day and the dishes are there, hot and ready for everyone to eat -- even if we're running late.
