Results of Your Comments on Comments

Let's see, how do I say this nicely? You all didn't help me with my comments quandry at all! ;-) I was going to leave the closed poll up for a few days so that you could see it because I know a few people said that they were interested in the results, but when I updated my blog template, I lost the poll.

It was a pretty even split, though. A little less than 50% of you prefer replies to comments be left on the post on which the comments were made. A little more than 50% of you prefer to receive replies to comments either on your personal blog or through an email reply.

I was hoping for a decisive margin either way, since I'm so indecisive myself. So, I think my approach, from here on out will be: if the comment is such that seeing the reply would benefit others (i.e. answering a general question, providing a forum-like discussion opportunity), I will reply in the comments section of the original post. If the reply that I would make is more personal in nature (a hello to someone new to my blog, for example), I'll either email my reply or leave it on the commenter's blog.

Now that I've switched back to full-page comments, it's easy to subscribe to individual comments. You just check the box under the "choose an identity" heading that says something about receiving follow-up comments. Further comments will then be sent to you via email. When you decide you no longer wish to receive email updates, you simply click the "unsubscribe" button in the email. Easy.

Thank for your comments on comments and for voting in the poll.

Thanks for leaving a comment! I may not be able to reply to each one, but I read them all.
