So, because I like to obsess about these things (yes, it'll probably be good for my psyche when school starts back), I've set up a poll in my sidebar. I hope you'll vote and also leave your comments, so that I can decide how best to respond to them from here on out...because I like 'em and I want you to keep leaving them for me. ;-)

Your Comments on Comments?
Okay, so I'm pondering comments again. I like the idea of responding to comments within my comments section in order to create a forum-like atmosphere...but I find myself wondering if people really see the responses. I mean, I know a few people do because I've had a little back-and-forth dialogue with a couple of people, but I'm sure there have been people who've left a comment and haven't seen my reply.

I'll be very interested to see how this turns out. I have wondered the same thing. I know some who reply in the comments and some who do "update" on the blog post..not sure what I like yet. I've done both. Thanks for this. I'll be keepin' an eye out for the results.
ReplyDeleteKris,
ReplyDeleteI just voted in your poll, but I wanted to make a suggestion. My sister-in-law has a blog where over on the side she has a section of most recent comments. This way, people can quickly scan and see if you or anyone else have made additional responses to a particular post. I don't have a blog, so I don't know what would be involved in putting that in, but it might be something to pursue. So you can see what I mean, here is her blog: http://sursumcorda.salemsattic.com/

The only time I am apt to go back to a post (on any blog) to recheck comments is if I asked a specific question.
ReplyDeleteI voted in your poll, and I'll be interested to see the results!
I voted! I like a response on the blog post where I left the comment because then it's organized and all in one place. If I'm interested in a response or what others will say I always subscribe to those comments. Call me an obsessive compulsive neat-freak (not that my house reflects that at the moment!). I love it when I leave a comment and then a person checks out my blog at least once and I try to respond to them...eventually. I've been bad with it lately- so much to do, so many loose ends, I feel like I'm losing my mind. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I came over from Blissfully Domestic, and this is my first time here.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about blogger, but with WordPress, there is a plugin that lets readers subscribe to specific comment threads. You can see it in action on my blog. (Sorry that sounds spammy, I just thought you might want to see if you could add something like it here.)
well, while we're talking about comments, I hate that I have to "select profile" every time I comment. Sometimes it even tells me that my "request could not be processed". I don't comment nearly as often as I'd like to b/c of that. So, if you could change that, you might get a lot more comments - um, not just from me though I know those are the ones you treasure most. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your candidness on the embedded comment form, Mary. I've been wondering about it since I've had some issues with it, too. I like it, but I think it still has too many bugs to be worked out. As you can see, I've switched back to the full page form, which, in addition to being more user-friendly, allows readers to subscribe to individual comment threads.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Monica, thanks for stopping by!
I missed the poll...
ReplyDeleteIf I am leaving a comment on a Blogger blog, and I am interested in the discussion or I have asked a question, I will check the box the email me follow up comments.
If it is not Blogger usually there's a comment feed that I will subscribe to to look for other comments to that post.
HTH!
