Works for Me Wednesday: A More Organized School Space

Borrowing from ideas shared by Amida, of Journey into Unschooling, and Angie, of Many Little Blessings, I was able to create an organized new school space that is definitely going to work for us this next school year.

I liked Amida's idea of having an organized resting spot for all those library books. We had a basket for our books, but it didn't hold very many and the ones that it did hold seemed to get forgotten. So, I determined that a two-shelf bookshelf would probably fit our needs and our available space.

Then, I saw Angie's bookshelf and decided that I really liked the narrow top shelf. It would make the perfect place for the kids' color-coordinated supply boxes! I was thrilled, last week, to find an inexpensive, but nice-looking particle-board bookshelf on sale at Big Lots for only $17. When we got it home, though, it didn't have holes high enough for that narrow top shelf. Brian was going to drill some holes for me -- later on -- but I quickly discovered that our supply boxes will stack just right on the top shelf and leave me some room for more books.

Before we got the bookshelf, we had several different places for stuff, as you can see:

It worked, but it was cluttered. Now, the bookshelf holds all that stuff in a neat, organized way. See? What do you think?

I'm excited about our new space. Oh, and the timeline will be back next year...but probably in book form, rather than on the wall.
