Homeschooling High School

Do you have a child who is fast approaching -- or who already is -- high school age? Are you wondering how on earth you're going to successfully navigate the high school years? I'm right there with you and, I'll admit, it's overwhelming. Up until high school, there is a freedom to homeschool without stressing about grades, transcripts, graduation requirements, and long-range plans.

Homeschooling for high school doesn't have to be overwhelming, though. It is a commitment and it does require more planning and record-keeping than the elementary and middle school years, but it can be done. At least, I hope it can because we'll be embarking on that journey by this time next year. We're looking at this year as our practice run for high school, as I learn to keep more detailed records and Brianna learns to work with with a more rigorous course load and learns to take on a more personal responsibility for completing assignments.

I've found a tool that is going to make this infinitely easier -- Terri Johnson's Upper Level High School course!

You may recognize Terri's name. She is the creator of the fabulous Knowledge Quest Blackline Maps, that we use in our homeschool, along with a whole host of resources for history and geography. She has recently produced two new online courses to help homeschooling families navigate what can often prove to be two of the most overwhelming periods of homeschooling -- getting started and high school. Homeschooling ABC's is a course to help new homeschooling families get started on the right foot, while Upper Level Homeschool is a thirteen-week email-based course to teach parents what Terri and her family have learned about successfully navigating the homeschool years.

A year or so ago, I went to a seminar about homeschooling through high school and, as part of the cost of the seminar, I was given a huge binder full of wonderful information on homeschooling high school. The seminar was really helpful and the binder is full of a wealth of information. There's only one problem -- it's full of a wealth of information. There is so much information that it's hard to know where to start.

That's what I love about Terri's course. It's a thirteen-week course in which you receive detailed information in manageable bites. Each week, for thirteen weeks, you receive an email with a link to that week's lesson. The lessons are available in PDF format for you to save and review at your convenience as you go along. Each lesson is 5-10 pages long and includes an assignment for you to complete that week. Most lessons contain worksheets or links to additional resources.

The cost of the course is also a plus. It's $45 for the entire course, but you only pay for one month at a time. So, your PayPal account or credit card will be charged $15 each month for each of the three months that you're receiving the emails, making paying for the course a little more manageable, as well as giving you the option to cancel if you're not completely satisfied.

I'm so excited about Terri's Upper Level High School course that I signed up to become an affiliate. What that means for you is that I get to offer my readers free goodies if you decide to purchase the course and do so through my links! Currently Knowledge Quest is offering Type Write Touch Typing (it's my understanding that this offer is good all summer) to everyone who purchases the course. If you purchase through my link, you'll also get two eBooks: Forms & Checklists and Motivating Teens.**

Want to know more? Click on the graphic below to download a free sample lesson that also includes an overview of the course and more detail about what you can expect each week. If you like what you see, you can click on the link in my sidebar or in this post to order your Upper Level High School course and join me in getting ready to begin the final leg of our homeschooling journey...well, for the first guinea pig kid, anyway.

**Note: I am still a little unsure about how the affiliate program works. The two books were included when I purchased my Upper Level High School course. If they're not included when you purchase, drop me an email and I'll get them to you.

  1. That looks AWESOME! I will be signing up soon!! Biggest will be starting 8th grade and he's been told that this will be his "practice" high school year.

One thing that jumped out at me on the link site was that your student should be able to plan and work independently. Biggest is expected to and usually does work independently but he doesn't plan anything, I'd better work on that with him.
