Our 2009-2010 Curriculum

It's time for one of my favorite posts of the year: our next school year's curriculum list! As homeschoolers, don't we all enjoy taking a peek at what others are using in the upcoming year? I may add to or take away from our list as we get into full swing, but, for now, here is our 2009-2010 school year curriculum:
Bible:
- Bible Study Guide for All Ages -- Finally, we'll be on Volume 2! (Bible Study Guide review)
- Grapevine Study's Biblical Feasts and Holy Days (review coming soon!)
- Grapevine Study's Esther (review coming soon!)
- Keys for Kids Devotionals (for occasional fill-ins)
- Simply Charlotte Mason Scripture Memory System
Math:
- Horizons math (Josh and Megan)
- Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra (Brianna)
Grammar:
- Easy Grammar and Daily Grams (read my comparison to First Language Lessons or my review of the new Ultimate series)
Writing:
- The Complete Writer Level 1 (Josh and Megan - Complete Writer review)
- Wordsmith (Brianna)
Spelling:
- Apples Daily Spelling Drills (Brianna - Apples review)
- Spelling Power
- SpellQuizzer (SpellQuizzer review)
Reading:
- Explode the Code (Josh and Megan)
- Selections from Reading Lists for College-Bound Students

- Free reading daily for everyone
History:
- Story of the World (finishing Vol. 2 and starting Vol. 3)
- TruthQuest History Guides (Renaissance, Reformation and Exploration)
- History Through the Ages Timeline Figures
- KnowledgeQuest Maps
Science:
- Christian Kids Explore (finishing Earth and Space; starting Chemistry)
Music:
- Homeschool Music Class (a local class for Josh and Megan)
- Young Scholar's Guide to Composers (right now I'm just daydreaming about this one, but I may purchase it after I get a chance to look at it at the curriculum fair)
Art:
Nature Study:
- Outdoor Hour Challenges (see all my nature study plans)
That's my intended arsenal for this year. Of course, we don't use all of this every day. Our general schedule this year will probably look much like it did last year with a little tweaking. I'll probably post our tweaks when we get a little more into the school year. I will also be throwing in reviews of things we use as part of TOS Homeschool Crew this year and letting you know which things we try that we like well enough to add into our eclectic mix.

Wow, thanks for sharing this! I haven't heard of most of the books on your list so it would be fun to check them out. And yes, it really is fun to peek into other people's curriculum!
Have you ever done a review of story of the world? I was checking them out on Amazon, but the reviews there were making my head spin.
@Chubbycheeks -- No, I've never done a review of Story of the World, but we love it. We started with Vol. 1 and will be finishing Vol. 2 and starting Vol. 3 this year.
I know there is a review on www.thecurriculumchoice.com and I imagine there are some on www.homesschoolreviews.com.
Lots of great links. I'm going to go back to that Scripture Memory system and the reading list for college bound kids. A few others, I guess I better bookmark this post to reread.

I took at look at FLL3 at our resource fair, and I totally agree with your assessment of it. I was really bummed because I loved the first one so much. Seems like a HUGE jump from 1/2 to 3. Unfortunately I just realized that I forgot to order Easy Grammar for my 3rd grader!
I went and found the review on Curriculum choice http://thecurriculumchoice.com/2009/06/story-of-the-world/ but I still had some questions about it. Cindy mentions it is geared for 1-4th grade, are you using it with your older kids? Are you adding more books for them to go along with it or are they doing a different curriculum?

@Christy -- I only have one child who is out of that age/grade range. During the first part of last year, I used a different resource for her -- basically a reading list that had her reading a spine book, a fiction and a non-fiction book about the time period we were studying (Ancient Rome). At the end of the study, we found that my younger kids had learned more about the time period than she had! Figuring that history is history, I just kept her in SOTW with the younger kids for the rest of the year, having her do additional reading (on her own) about related topics and sometimes requiring more detailed activities (such as map work). It worked out fine for us.
I'll probably continue to have her do SOTW in that same fashion this year. Next year, when she begins high school, I plan to move everyone to Truthquest History Guides. She has used them before and we enjoyed them, but I got tired of trying to mesh it with SOTW, so I just had everyone using SOTW with the exception of the first few months of our last school year.

oh please post your experiences with the biblical feasts one, i would love to do that with my kids someday. after living in israel for a short time, the original feasts & holidays are very dear to me.

@Composing Hallelujahs -- That's the first one we'll be doing. I'm really excited about it. Lately, I've become very interesting in learning more about the feasts and holy days. The review will be posted sometime in mid- to late-August.
Loved reading this list! It's always so fun to see what other people are doing.
I think I'm finally set to try to put together my list to post sometime next week. :)

We use some of the same things, but you definitely have more planned. I would love to do more, but I know (from past experience) that I won't get it all done, so now I keep it simpler for me and them.

I really want to do the handbook of outdoor... umm... my brain just forgot.
Anyways... I need to spend some time looking at that.
