Weekly Wrap-Up: Share Your Curriculum Edition


It's time for the first-ever themed Weekly Wrap-Up: The "Share Your Curriculum" Edition. Last week, I listed the curriculum we'll be using this year (and I've already made one small change by adding TruthQuest back into our history line-up).   1. I think I am going to try the Easy Grammar this year. I've fallen short in teaching math and grammar and plan to "fix"that this year.

    It looks like you will have a fun and productive year. How many more 50 state fridays do you have left?

  4. Two things...

    First, in your last post you mentioned as survival tip #1, "Wear comfortable shoes". I know this! I really do, but for some reason my brain said that I could survive just 3 and 1/2 hours in my fashionable shoes. Wrong! I'll be wearing my tennis shoes tomorrow.....

    Secondly, I'll be changing up my Abeka grammar and possibly spelling now that I've already posted my curriculum for the year. Funny how a curriculum fair can do that to me.....

  5. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I will let you know how we like Real Science 4 Kids. I downloaded some samples and it looks pretty good, but it is rather expensive. I keep putting off buying it, but I can't find anything cheaper that looks as interesting to me!

  10. I love reading about all the curriculum options! I followed all the links and got some very good ideas for things to investigate further. I am only just beginning homeschooling - my son is 4 1/2, but I was homeschooled and have always known that is what I would do.

    I am primarily going to focus on learning to read. I got a relatively new (I think) curriculum at the home school convention. It's called Reading Rivers by Christian Cottage Curriculum. It uses a metronome as a reading tool and I am excited to try it. If that doesn't suit, I have the Explode the Code books as Plan B. I am going to use lots of homemade games and phonics manipulatives also.

    I am also focusing on math, since that is a high priority to me and my son seems to have quite an interest. I am starting off with Singapore Earlybird Kindergarten Math, and will probably move to Math-U-See in a year or two.

    For science, nothing formal, but my son has a HUGE interest in all things science-y. When he asks for television, it's always for "Something cool on the Science Channel." So I bought the Sonlight preschool science books, which he loves already, and also have gotten a number of animal books from Learning Train publishing. We will be taking advantage of our zoo membership and also have a few trips to the Natural Science Museum planned.

    I am so excited to begin! I do feel overwhelmed looking at how many subjects some of these moms teach, but I know I will find my way eventually!
