Web Design for Kids in an instructional DVD that walks kids through designing their own web page using basic HTML codes. In just over an hour, using only Notepad and Microsoft Paint, which come free on all Windows-based PCs, kids will learn basic HTML, as well as how to:
- Add text and pictures
- Change font size, style and color
- Add pictures
- Make text move on the screen
Web Design for Kids was created by middle school computer literacy instructor, Brian Richardson and was born of Mr. Richardson's desire to teach kids something relevant and interesting that would serve them well in a computer-oriented future. He also wanted to teach web design in a way that kids could understand, which is why his DVD features kid-friendly language that even beginners can understand.
Your kids (and you!) will learn basic web design as you watch the very personable Mr. Richardson walk you through each step of the process. You will actually watch each action performed, on-screen, as you follow along on your home computer -- even if you don't have Internet access! There are only two places in the entire DVD in which you actually go on the Internet -- once to get a background and once to get a photo. These portions could easily be skipped if Internet access is not available or done by a parent ahead of time if privacy or security issues are a concern.
I really enjoyed this DVD. The information is presented in an easy-to-understand, conversational style by Mr. Richardson, who is friendly and funny -- and your kids will probably enjoy his corny jokes. If you're looking for something to kick-start or supplement a computer literacy course in your family's homeschool and you don't have a basic knowledge of HTML, Web Design for Kids may be just what you're looking for. Even though I possess what I would consider a basic grasp of HTML, I still learned some things and the information was provided in a much more clear, concise and orderly fashion than I could have achieved if I were trying to teach my kids myself.
The normal cost of the DVD is $40, plus shipping and handling, with a portion of all proceeds going to five wonderful charitable organizations. However, if you hurry, there is currently a summer half-off special, making the DVD only $19.99 plus s&h.
