Works for Me Wednesday: Kids and Sugar

Okay, I usually try to give serious, thought-provoking (okay, maybe that's pushing it a bit) tips for Works for Me Wednesday, so I hope you can indulge me in a bit of humor this week...with an underlying degree of seriousness because I was ready to pull my hair out Monday night.


Ready? Here goes.


If your in-laws give your seven-year-old this:

  1. Oh! I can only imagine!!! My 10 year old boy is a bit hyper to begin with - I would be in a padded cell by the end of the day if someone gave him all that stuff!

  2. LOL! I know what you mean! But one of the things I remember about my grandparents is that they always gave treats, so I'm okay with a little indulgence (of course, we only see them a couple times a year).

  3. What IS it with in-laws? Just last night my mother-in-law called (at bedtime) and chatted with the kids about our recent trip to the Aquarium. Her side of the conversation consisted mostly of how many teeth sharks have and how you shouldn't let one chomp your leg. My son is FOUR and it was BEDTIME! So. Not. Helpful.

  4. Love this! My mom recently gave our girls those candy stick thingies and you can imagine the result - sticky kids and lots of cleaning up. Love your blog title, btw! We're starting homeschooling this year, so I'm sure I'll be stopping by often! :)

  7. My parents like to give my kids powdered donuts, Gaterade, gummy bears, and Jell-O... for breakfast! They live too far for me to send them home with them, so can I send them to YOUR parents house? LOL! :)

  9. Wow. That is a LOT of sugar. My daughter usually gets treats from her grandparents, but not quite that much. Wow!

  10. Lol! You poor mom. :)

    My brother-in-law once gave my 2 year old an entire chocolate bar before we left for home two hours away.

    His little foot swung back and forth and back and forth and back and forth ALL the way home! It's funny...now.

  12. My MIL gives my kids bacon and Skittles for breakfast when they stay over the night. Luckily they only stay with them once a month or so... we also have started sending a food bag with them so that they have some alternatives. They used to come home sooooo cranky and I know it was from the sludge in their bloodstream. : )

  14. Very funny! My mother-in-law always complains about how bad sugar is for you, and how kids today get diabeties. This of course after she has fed the kids desserts and sends them home with a treat bag full of sugar.

  16. You are living my ongoing nightmare. My MIL just cannot get it though her head that sugar turns my sweet dear son into a raving lunatic. Which, would not be so bad if they only did it on occasion, but.... she picks him up from school EVERYDAY! Welcome to my world.
