Works for Me Wednesday: No-Bake Cookies

>> Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Do you ever have an uncontrollable urge for something sweet...and preferably chocolate?  I do and I love that the ingredients for No-Bake Chocolate Cookies (a.k.a "cow pies" or "doo-doo" cookies, depending on how strong your stomach is) tend to be staples that I have on hand, meaning that, in no time, I can whip up a batch of chocolatey, gooey goodness.  Want the recipe?

No-Bake Chocolate Cookies

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 stick butter or margarine
1/2 cup milk
1/c cup peanut butter
3 cups oatmeal (quick-cooking seem to work best)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt

Bring sugar, cocoa, butter and milk to a boil for one minute.  Add remaining ingredients.  Drop by spoonful onto waxed paper.

This one definitely works for me...the sweet tooth side of me, anyway.  The side that needs to lose weight, not so much.  Visit Kristin at We Are THAT Family for more Works for Me Wednesday tips.

Mmm. We have a similar recipe for these, though sometimes I slip in some coconut. They are great!

Oh dear, I have a sudden urge for chocolate. I love those cookies! The friend that gave me the recipe calls them Ooey Gooeys. Just another name for the list. More creative than no-bake chocolate cookies and less gross than the others :)

Now I'm craving no-bakes after seeing that picture! Guess I know what I'll be making this weekend. :-)

Okay, I remember these from the days when my mom was the cook at our middle school. She would make stacks and stacks of these for school lunches. I can't imagine that they would let the PS serve these now in the age of "nutritional" lunches. I think she was able to count it because they had PB in them.

In case you were wondering, I hated having my mom be the "lunch lady" and *never* went into the cafeteria. I preferred to eat my lunch out of a sack. :)

My mom and I did not have the best relationship then and I can't imagine how it must of hurt her that I never came to visit her...ever. Sigh. I guess I did have a teen attitude during those years. I should go call her and apologize.

These are my FAVORITE cookies and I make them so often, I can make them with my eyes closed. They are delicious and the perfect fix for a chocolate craving.

This is one of my FAVORITE cookies of all times! I used to LOVE it when my mom would decide to make these.

THis mornign I woke up thinking I wanted to make cookies today but wasn't sure what kind. Decision made! Thanks for the reminder! Or, perhaps the waistline will not thank you but the tastebuds will!

YUM, I haven't had those in ages. I could easily make those dairy free. I know what I'm having for dessert tonight!!

I do love me some no-bake cookies! They're wheat-free and take 15 minutes to make. Perfect for me [smile].

That was the first thing I ever learned how to "cook" on my own, and I used to make these no-bake cookies just about every day when I was a kid!

Cookies sound so good right now. I'm really trying to get back on track with our no added sugar diet though. Grrrr!!

I LOVE those cookies. I crave them sometimes. You know, like now, after seeing your picture.

Ok....I did make these...partially ouf of necessity though. I was supposed to make cookies for both of my kids Awana clubs. The plan was cake mix cookies. Everything was going great until one of the eggs (which by the way I just bought on Thursday) had apparently been left to gestate a bit too long prior to packaging. Had I not started to gag, it would have been a neat science experiment. So no bake cookies it was.

We had planned to make muffins, but these look soooo good maybe we will make these tomorrow.

Kris,
That is SO funny...I almost made these last night...went online and looked at recipes and found a recipe for Peanut Butter Bars and made those instead...well...hopefully we can say that Great Minds think alike...I better not push it on my end though...I've been a bit dense on my end lately!

We make ours a little differently, but these used to be some of my favorite cookies when I was growing up. :)
