With my sincere apologies to my legitimate friends and readers who sometimes comment anonymously, I would like to announce that I am no longer accepting anonymous comments. I've had all I can take of the relentless spam with which I've been bombarded for the last several months. I thought the spammers would get bored, since all my comments are moderated and it's not like I'm going to approve spam, but that hasn't happened. I'm hoping that by disallowing the anonymous comments for a while, the spammers will move on.
I'll try to open the anonymous comments back up in a couple of months. In the meantime, those with Google or Open ID accounts will be able to leave comments. If you don't have either of these options and would like to comment on a post, please feel free to email me.

I have been contemplating the same exact move. I have had a great increase in spam comments even though I moderate mine as well. I wonder what they think when they post anonymously when we moderate??? Just a plain nuisance.

Oh no you di-int! :) I understand. I was considering doing the same thing for a while, but thankfully they seemed to have moved on for now. It's ridiculous, I it stops for you!

ReplyDeleteDon't blame you a bit. I don't do anonymous comments, and still occasionally get spam comments.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, we've had the same problem on The Homeschool Classroom, and one other blog that I have. I changed the settings on both and they stopped. It was just crazy how much spam was coming in.

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the same thing.... What is with that wacky spammers?? I have one from somewhere crazy. Mostly on my older posts, but I'm considering using word verification ~ hoping that will help out.
ReplyDeleteI had to do the same thing. I've seen a few other blogs having this problem as well..whatcha gonna do? I also moderate my comments...but still it's so annoying.

ReplyDeleteI use Akismet. I get a lot of spam, but it all goes to a separate folder and I simply check it periodically to make sure it hasn't caught valid comments and then click delete all spam.
Hope your spammer moves on!
I've had a problem over the last week- neever did before. I hate to add word verification because I dislike having to use it myslef to leave comments.
