Homeschool Showcase #38

Welcome to first 2010 edition of Homeschool Showcase, where we spotlight all the encouraging, inspiring and just plain fun ways that homeschooling families live and learn together.  Thanks for making 2009 a great year for Homeschool Showcase.  With your help through submitting fantastic posts of the fun, hands-on things you and your family are doing, 2010 can be even beter!  Now, on to the Showcase...

Annette Berlin offers a review of the book, Amazing Leonardo da Vinci Inventions posted at Craft Stew, saying, "I’m a big fan of technology books written for kids."  You may recall that Brenda Sain also shared some fantastic hands-on activities that she and her family did based on this book in a recent Homeschool Showcase.  Be sure to read Annette's review of a book that sounds like a real winner.

I love Samantha's idea for Formula Writing - "There Was a Sad Peasant Who Swallowed a Pheasant" posted at To Be Busy at Home!  My kids love working in those Bare Books, but it can sometimes be difficult to think of what to write.  Formula Writing might be just the ticket.

Brenda Sain shares some wonderfully inspiring and practical ideas from my schoolroom 2nd edition at her blog, The Tie That Binds Us.  I wish someone had shared the preschool toy swap idea with me when I had preschoolers; it's pure brilliance!

Pamela Jorrick shares More Christmas Craftiness- Glitter Everywhere at Blah, Blah, Blog where you'll find fun science experiments for any time of year and some ideas for Christmas crafts for next year.  If you're anything like me, you should go ahead and start working on them now.

Mrs Green asks, "What is a home schooling mama to do when her child hates math? Here are my top ten tips to make maths fun and easy!"  Read her 10 Teaching Math Tips at Little Green Blog.

Nicole, of Mama to 3 Blessings, shares her ideas for fun with Science, along with lots of great pictures and resources.

If you've been looking for an inexpensive creative writing program for your homeschooler, look no more!  Nothing is less expensive than free and Sarah, of Small World at Home, offers some great, online classes.  Check out the latest in the series, Form Poetry.

Ticia shares a great idea for a Fun Quick Math Game posted at Adventures in Mommydom.  She played a simple counting version of the game with her young kiddos, but offers suggestions to easily adapt for a variety of ages.

Over at Journey Into Unschooling, Amida presents an excellent tutorial, with photos, on Making a Corn Husk Doll.  Even if you don't want to make a corn husk doll, you need to stop by and visit just to see her way cool new header.  Looks like one of her boys has really been having some fun.

If you have an iPhone, you might be interested in the Timed Test Challenge app, created by home educators Arlene and Abby Lee.  You can find out more at iHomeEducator.

Dana shares a great little story about a book her daughter is writing, My daughter is writing a book posted at Roscommon Acres.  I love her daughter's enthusiasm, but I also really love Dana's wisdom about learning by copying the masters.  Great words of wisdom, Mom!

That concludes this edition of Homeschool Showcase.  Thanks to each of you who submitted a post.  The next edition is scheduled for Monday, January 25.  Post submissions will be due Sunday, January 24 by 4 PM (EST).  You can submit your blog article by using our carnival submission form.  Past posts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

Thanks so much for your time and dedication in running this carnival. I know how much 'behind the scenes' work takes place :)

You've put together a great list and thank you for including my submission :)

Have a great week

Enjoyed the carnival....I really did try to come up with something to send in but I just didn't seem to have something "showcase" worthy.

I will try harder next time. :)
