Works for Me Wednesday: Summer Recipes Edition

You may have noticed that I haven't been posting many Works for Me Wednesday tips lately.  I guess I've been having trouble coming up with anything that works for me that I haven't already told you.  This week, however, is a special themed edition: summer recipes.  Since I have a yummy summer recipe that's been a huge hit with the family (extended included), I thought I'd share it with you.

Red, White and Blue Trifle

1 angel food cake (I used this recipe and made my own...totally worth the effort, but a mix works well, too.)
1 - 1 1/2 cups each strawberries and blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 package cream cheese
1/2 cup sugar
1 medium tub of whipped topping

Make the angel food according to directions.  Let cool, then tear into chunks.  Soften cream cheese and mix with 1/2 cup sugar.  Fold whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture.

Place a layer of angel food cake in the bottom of a large bowl.  (The one pictured here is really too small -- a four quart bowl works great.)  Top with strawberries (and the juice, if you've used fresh), then, spread a layer of whipped topping mixture over the strawberries to completely cover.  Add another layer of angel food cake.  Top with blueberries and whipped topping mixture.  Chill and serve cold.

Check out this week's Works for Me Wednesday for more summer recipe favorites.
