Did I ever tell you the story of the time I had to run out to the store at 11:00 at night for {ahem} feminine products? Probably not because, while it’s funny, it’s kind of awkward for a blog post. Now is the time to tell it, though. There I was at Walmart at 11:00 at night. There were two things on the conveyer belt – a box of feminine hygiene products and a Hershey bar. (Actually, there might have been a bottle of Midol, too.)

The cashier – a woman – gave me her usual greeting, “How are you tonight?”

I kind of raised my eyebrow, looked at my purchases and back at her with a look that said, “I’m in Walmart at 11:00 at night and this is all I’m purchasing. How do you think I’m doing?”

I didn’t say that, though, because I’m nicer than that. I just kind of laughed and gave the usual reply, “Fine, thanks.”

This isn’t like that. I’ve got three products that I want to tell you about and they are not clearly related, as feminine products and chocolate bars are. However, I wanted  you to know about them before it gets too late, so here they are – my mismatch of unrelated products on the proverbial conveyer belt of my blog. (How’s that for imagery?)

Christmas Art

Tricia Hodges, author of A Simple Start in Chalk Pastels, has a new chalk tutorial e-book available – A Simple Start in Christmas Chalk Pastels. We take off for the whole month of December, so I’m excited about this new e-book because it means that, while we won’t be doing formal school, there will be something fun to do that fits in with all the holiday excitement. At least two of my kids will really enjoy making some drawings as Christmas gifts or using the artwork to adorn the homemade Christmas cards they make each year.

The book includes tutorials such as:

  • Gingerbread men
  • Angels
  • Holly leaf
  • The Manger
  • A Christmas ornament

Tricia has even created a free video tutorial of a Christmas wreath to get you started.

And, I’ll just throw this idea out there: Erica, at Confessions of a Homeschooler, has a Christmas Around the World unit study download. I’m thinking of combing it with the Christmas chalk tutorial for a fun, low-key daily activity leading up to Christmas.

Christmas Shopping

If you like to include fun, educational goodness on your Christmas shopping list – or like sending those ideas to the grandparents – I’ve got some dates and codes you’ll want to write down. Uzinggo, which offers online math and science for middle and high school (read my Uzinggo review to learn more) is offering a couple of specials.

College

Finally, this one isn’t Christmas related, but it’s something you’ll want to know if you’ve got a homeschooled kid headed to college any time soon because, y’all, college is expensive. Calvin Lyman, a homeschool graduate, has written a brand new ebook, How I Earned My Bachelor’s Degree by Age 18 (And How You Can Too!).

Bachelor's Degree Cover

Calvin is now 18 and working on his Master’s degree. He is also the youngest person ever admitted into the Master’s program at Oklahoma Christian University. Calvin wrote this ebook to encourage others who would like to do the same and even those who never knew this was possible. He is also hoping to earn money to support himself while working on his Master’s degree, which he is currently doing debt free.

There you go! Now you know all you need to know to save money on Christmas chalk pastel tutorials, online math and science help for your middle and high school students, and college for your homeschool grad. You’re welcome! 🙂
