W elcome to the February 18, 2013 edition of Homeschool Showcase, where we spotlight all the encouraging, inspiring and just plain fun ways that homeschooling families live and learn together.

What do you think of my new look? I am so pleased with it! I think my blog looks more inviting and homier and the new header pulls in some of the elements that I missed from the one I had before I moved to WordPress. I may still be working out bugs for the next few days, so if you find anything quirky, let me know.

We’re enjoying our first week off in our new semester, so it’s a great Monday for us. Are you taking today off for President’s Day, doing some fun projects, or just enjoying business as usual?

However your Monday is shaping up, I hope you enjoy these creative ideas and encouraging inspiration from your fellow homeschooling moms.

Natalie Waddell-Rutter shares resources and project ideas for an Astronomy unit study posted at Fill Your Bookshelf. She does, however, speculate that maybe January wasn’t the best month for stargazing. Brrr!

Claire has some great ideas if you’re studying Apologia Science Chapter Two: Bones. Visit angelicscalliwags for photos, resources and hands-on activity ideas. Great stuff!

Dana offers some practical tried and true tips for Motivating Reluctant Readers posted at Death by Great Wall.

If you’ve ever had a bad homeschooling day, you need to go read Elizabeth’s post, Homeschooling – The Bad Days, at lazyhippiemama. You’ll be encouraged by the practical, balanced tips she offers for dealing with the inevitable bad days.

Kelli Miller shares some free Printable Black History Month Activities for Kids posted at 3 Boys and a Dog Deals.

Paige offers step-by-step tips for preparing for a science fair in the first of a 5-part blog series, The Science Fair Project, Steps 1&2 on her blog, Elemental  Blogging.
