I would like to have some brand-new, really meaty content for you today, but, well, I’ve been too busy enjoying my summer to find much time for writing. Last Friday, my family and some of the kids’ friends spent the day at a local amusement park for my husband’s company picnic. It’s something the kids look forward to every year and they always have a blast.

(This is what the daredevils did. I held their stuff and took pictures.)

Like a crazy person, I also let them invite their friends to spend the night afterward, so we had six kids at our house Friday night. Pizza, donut holes, and excessive amounts of caffeine were enjoyed by all.

Saturday was my birthday and Josh had rehearsal for a music performance coming up soon. Brianna had to work and Megan went to her cousin’s house. So, Brian and I got to spend the day just loafing around – and ordering my birthday present. A new pair of sunglasses for running.

Sunday was church, lunch with my sister’s family, a pool party for Brianna, and packing for camp. Monday was getting the two younger kids off to camp. So, you can see why I haven’t had much time for brand-new, meaty stuff. So, I thought I’d share what have been the most popular posts of 2014, so far, just in case you missed them.

Top 10 Post of 2014 (So Far!)

1. 10 Things I’d Change if I Could Have a Homeschool Do-Over. Hindsight is always 20/20, right? If you like that one, be sure to read my caveat to it at Real Life at Home, Encouragement for New Homeschool Moms.

2. 5 Homeschool Blogs You Should Be Following. This post has been around awhile, but it always gets a lot of traffic. The cool thing to me is that each of the blogs listed are still among my favorites.

3. 16 Middle School Blogs You Should Be Following. Once kids hit middle school, things can become very quiet in blogland. This post highlights 16 bloggers who are posting about life with middle school kids.

4. The 10 Commandments of Homeschooling. Some people didn’t get that most of these were meant to be funny. Go. Read. Laugh. Life is too short to take too seriously.

5. How to Make a Salt Dough Map. This post is ancient, but it’s always in my top 10. That makes me happy because it was one of those times when the hands-on project turned out just exactly as I had it pictured in my mind.

6. 25 Things that Make a Homeschool Mom Happy. Maybe I should add “the fact that my How to Make a Salt Dough Map is always in my top ten” to this list. Or something like that.

7. WUHS Top Picks: Kindergarten. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had Kindergarten kids, but there would be very few changes to this top picks post.

8. Homeschooling Pros and Cons: Part 1. It’s fun to start with the cons. It keeps people on their toes. And, let’s be honest, I wouldn’t trade our homeschooling life for anything, but the day-to-day is not always a bed of roses.

9. Review: Institute for Excellence in Writing. People often ask why we switched from IEW when I seemed to like it so well. I did like and still do, but over time, it seemed to not be the best fit for my kids. Find out a bit about why we switched and how IEW compares to WriteShop, which we’re using now.

10. Trail Guide to Learning Review. This was probably my longest review ever, but there was just so much to tell. We loved Trail Guide to Learning and were so sad to finish up the series. The first book in the middle school series is due out soon! I’m afraid it’s going to be too late for us since my second child is starting high school this year, but I can only imagine that it’s going to be as amazing as the series for the younger grades.

Maybe that will give you some reading material for your tablet or smartphone while you sit by the pool or something.

  1. I’ve enjoyed all those posts, my favourite being the ten commandments. Whilst the actual post was top notch and funny, it was the comments which had me rolling on the floor. Some people really need to take a chill pill!
