I’m not sure how it can be time for another update or how many weeks y’all will put up with these disheartening posts. Yes, that means that, once again, the scale is not moving in the direction one would hope.

However, I’ve successfully lost a bunch of weight in the past and I know I can do it again. It’s just a matter of continuing to make good choices. I had someone send me an email last week saying that she was choosing to give herself an “atta girl” for all her good choices and not focus or beat herself up on the negative. I thought that was a great idea, so I’m going to to that, too.

Areas in which I did well:

  • I completed all my scheduled runs, including yesterday’s particularly hot, sweaty one and I feel really good about how far I’ve come since getting back into the swing of things last May.
  • I made mostly good food choices – not all good, but mostly.
  • I was very close to reaching my step goal on both Saturday and Sunday – days that are typically low activity days.

Goals for next week:

  • I’ve come to the conclusion that, while I love using resistance equipment at the gym (where I currently don’t have a membership), I’m not crazy about free weights at home. So, now that the weather is cooling off, I think I may just run more rather than force myself through strength training that I don’t really enjoy.
  • I will track my food diligently and consistently
  • I will also quit procrastinating and sign up for Daily Burn. Have you used it? Thoughts?

That’s my update, such as it is, this week. How did you do?

  1. Kris – I am soooo glad you have started doing your weekly fitness updates again, because I am right there with you. The scale has been an inconsistent friend, but I’m with your email friend – trying to be kind to myself and remember that I making good choices – not perfect choices. I let myself enjoy the occasional treat – football food – and not sweat the small stuff. The scale will eventually show the results. Hopefully.

  2. Thanks for your updates! I know how hard it is to not see the scale move. I had a baby last September, and I actually got down it weight about 10 lbs. from where I am right now. Unfortunately, I gained some of it back! I finally decided to start again, and this time I am just striving to get in the recommended 5 miles of daily walking. For the past 4 days I have been willingly getting up at 5:30 to get in my daily walking. I’ve always been a 7am kind of girl, so it’s not easy. My weight jumped up right after starting, and I have this sweet tooth that just never seems to be satisfied, so it is discouraging, but it am going to keep trying! Good luck to you

  3. Kris, don’t feel badly about writing about the not-so-positive aspects of life. We all experience these times and they’re just real parts of the process. I love the advice you received from that email and the positive attitude you’re maintaining. Sometimes stress can just cause our bodies to not react how we expect it to, especially when we’re trying to lose weight. Sorry, I don’t have any experience with Daily Burn, but would also be interested in hearing more about it. I’ll click on over and see more about it in the meantime. Hope your next week is better!

  4. I’m not sure if this is your experience but I am now finding losing weight harder than it was a few years ago. I am having to make really, really good food choices and exercise really hard to see any scale differences. It used to be I could have a fairly rotten week but get away with it by moving a bit more. Now I absolutely can’t.
I just keep reminding myself how far I’ve come and how much our lives have changed (all 7 of us) due to the sheer amount of exercising we are all doing.
It’ll come Kris, I’m sure of it. Just a bit slower is all!

    1. Yes, I’m sure you’re right, Claire. I imagine that age is definitely a contributing factor to the weight-loss struggle. I’m just going to keep plugging away, though. No matter what the scale says, I’m still healthier if I’m eating well and exercising than if I wasn’t.

  5. I am so happy to have found your page. I recently went from 194 to 174 over the summer. My overall goal is 144. I seem to be stuck right now and I am losing motivation. I also took up running but suffer with plantar fasciitis in both feet presently. I love running and now when I go for a run I suffer for days after because of pain in my feet. I have been to the foot doctor, received shots, and purchased inserts and none have helped. I look forward to reading your Wednesday weigh in posts and I think I will start the same accountability on my own blog! You did it before and you can do it again! I believe in you!

    1. Thanks for commenting, Jenn, and congrats on your weight-loss! Just keep plugging away. I know you’ll get past that plateau. (Here’s a post I wrote about that early on in my weight-loss that might help you: https://weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com/epiphany/)

I have dealt with plantar fasciitis, too. It doesn’t sound like mine is as bad as yours, so these tips may not help, but here are some things that helped me: https://weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com/what-is-plantar-fasciitis/
