Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a fantastic week. It’s been my favorite kind over here – relatively low-key and uneventful.

Tuesday was kind of funny. So many people were rushing around getting their kids ready to go trick-or-treating and it was just an ordinary day over here. It’s weird having grown kids.

Megan did decide to go trick-or-treating with her BFF. Hey, my BFF and I went until we were 16 or 17, too. Um, free candy!

Instead of rushing around helping her get ready, I took a nap while she did her own make-up. She was Carl from The Walking Dead, complete with gouged-out eyeball that she did herself. I’ll spare you the pictures, but she did a fantastic job.

Josh went over to his BFF’s house to watch scary movies. A good teenage boy Halloween activity.

Brianna spent the night with her BFF after work. And, they went trick-or-treating! I asked her if they didn’t think they were too old for trick-or-treating. They did not. Again, free candy.

She was willing to share with me, so who was I to complain?

We celebrated a birthday on Wednesday. This sweet girl turned one:

Okay, celebrated is a bit too strong a word for what we did. Acknowledged is probably more accurate. We did tell her Happy Birthday, play ball with her a little longer than usual, and bring her leftovers when we went out to dinner.

Brianna found a wedding dress last Friday. It was probably way too early to buy it, but she looked at me with puppy-dog eyes and told me how beautiful it made her feel. {sigh}

I’m going to make her take the advice of the seamstress who’ll be doing the alterations. She told Brianna to try the dress on every two or three months to make sure she’s not letting too much weight creep up on her.

Brianna told me she wanted to lose weight. I told her that she can’t lose too much! I said she’d have to try the dress on every two or three months to determine if we needed to go walking together or if she needed to eat more cake. {grin}

If you’re curious about unschooling, you should check out my latest article at ThoughtCo.com, What Is Unschooling?

We aren’t radical unschoolers, obviously, but we’ve definitely begun leaning toward that end of the spectrum. I hope I captured the essence of unschooling in the article.

Now I’m off for what I hope will be a relatively quiet weekend at home – and going to see the new Thor movie of course! Surprisingly, I am all about the Marvel movies. I’ve been looking forward to this one.

Have a great weekend, y’all!

  1. I can’t wait to check out your unschooling article. We learned so much about learning during our two years of unschooling. In the end, it wasn’t enough structure for my kids, but it enabled me to relax so much with my homeschooling methods. I’ll never regret that experience.

  2. My teens went trick or treating too. I think they will keep it up for a long time – it is a chance to visit old family friends around the neighborhood and catch up. We live really close to a university and they always come by too. I think of it in terms of the college students needing the candy more than the little kids – they don’t have a lot of extra cash and a bit of candy and some fun is a great way to spend the evening! (much better than a frat party!)
