Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had an amazing week. Thank you all for your prayers last week. It helped tremendously knowing that people were praying with our family. What we’re dealing with isn’t going to be a quick fix thing, but this week has been much better than last.

Some of you have been asking about our curriculum for this year. I finally got around to updating our curriculum page for the current school year if you’re interested in taking a peek.

One of Josh’s chemistry experiments this week was mixing baking soda and vinegar. I don’t care how old you get, that’s still fun. I’m really surprised at how much he’s enjoying using Chemistry 101. It really makes me wish we’d used Biology 101 last year. Oh, well. I’ll remember that for Megan.

Megan starts astronomy next week with Experiencing Astronomy. She’s excited to get started.

We’ll also be starting our government co-op next Friday with Josh and Megan’s friends. We decided to do that partly to hold ourselves accountable and partly because it sounded like a fun alternative to a subject that has the potential to be a bit boring (though I’ve heard great things about ConLit).

Civitas

We’ll be using Constitutional Literacy and A Noble Experiment. Plus, I won Civitas from Bright Ideas Press, so we’ll be playing that some, too.

I had a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday. It’s so nice to have older kids who can continue their work at home (at least in theory) while I do something relatively quick like that.

CFA tea

I had to have a scope of my throat. Do you know how they do a scope of your throat? It’s not through your mouth. Nope, it’s through the nose. Really it wasn’t horrible. They numbed my nose first. Still, I thought it deserved a Chick-Fil-A sweet tea, so I treated myself on the way home.

That may be one of my last treats for a while though. I mean, not the last sweet tea, of course, but the last of using excuses to drink more than I normally would. I finally decided that I needed a little kick in the pants to get my weight back under control, so I joined Weight Watchers yesterday. I’ve done it before and was fairly successful, losing 40 pounds at the time.

I know how to lose weight on my own and had my biggest success without a program, but right now I just feel like I need that accountability and guidance. Membership was half off (until tomorrow – September 3), so I figured I might as well give it a shot.

Peanut

Peanut isn’t spoiled at all.

In case you missed it, I shared some of my favorite resources for homeschooling preschool at About.com this week.

That’s about all the excitement in my life this week, but that’s fine by me. That’s about all the excitement I could handle after last week.

How was your week? Be sure to post about it and link up. If this is your first time to join us, be sure to read the Weekly Wrap-Up guidelines. You can also follow the guidelines link to grab the banner code.

  1. My daughter will be doing Biology 101 this year and we’re looking forward to it. I already have Chemistry 101 purchased as well, so if Bio goes well, she can do Chem next year.

  2. I’m so glad to hear that your week went better! I’ve made a mental note about Chemistry 101… and the rest of the 101 series. We’ll need to pick a science curriculum for high school in a year or two. Dive science also looked interesting. I am not scientifically inclined at all, so I find it a bit intimidating to choose something for the upper levels.

  3. My son is a little behind in science as an 8th grader. He will most likely do a general science next year, followed by Biology 101 in the 10th grade. I keep forgetting about your link up. As soon as my tech fixes my blog I’m going to put your button on my sidebar so I remember! Have a blessed week.
