Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had an amazing week! We’ve had a good one. For the first time that I can recall since my kids started going to camp, we managed to have two weeks off between the end of school and the week of camp.

That may not sound like a big deal, but our first week of summer break usually involves a company picnic at a local amusement park and the rush to get ready for camp. It has been so nice having a buffer week with nothing we’ve had to do. I need to remember that and plan accordingly next year.

Monday, we had a spur-of-the-moment cookout with Brian’s parents. Then, I went to the Mac store at the mall and daydreamed a bit. After fighting with my laptop last weekend and thinking that the Windows 10 update (that I didn’t want – it started automatically) was the culprit, I started daydreaming about a MacBook. Hey, my birthday is next week and a girl can dream.

Summer swimming has started at a friend’s house, too. Once a week, this family hosts an open swim day where everyone just shows up when they can sometime after lunch. The kids always love it because they get to see their friends.

I’m looking forward to lots of this during the summer with my nifty new bag from Fair Trade Friday.

I love it because I get to socialize with other moms without the pressure of a set time to be there. That means I can get some things done in the morning and get everyone fed before heading over without feeling rushed – perfect for an introverted homebody who doesn’t do schedules well.

My mom has a new pool this year, too, so we headed up there for a swim yesterday – something I’m sure we’ll be doing frequently this summer.

I’ve also been able to work on some online projects, which I’ve enjoyed. I’ve been doing a little decluttering and sprucing up on some old blog posts. I’m sure that sounds boring to most people, but I find it relaxing and it makes me feel semi-productive. It’s probably a blogger thing.

I shared an article at Simple Homeschool this week about chilling out and being okay with a lazy summer because sometimes we just need some down time. Check out On letting summer break replenish and restore your kids.

Happy summer, y’all! I’m off to enjoy a few more lazy days before that company picnic and the rush to get everyone off to camp. (Then, I’m going to enjoy a week of silence and alone time, by the end of which I’ll miss my kids like a crazy person and be bouncing in my seat, giddy with the excitement of seeing them again, as we go to pick them up!)

  1. I love the idea of an open swim day. Your neighbors sound very generous. Our neighbor does let our kids swim there a few times a week, but it’s usually just the kids. I would love to get together with some other moms like that!

  2. It sounds like your summer has got off to a great start, Kris. I’m another ‘introverted homebody who doesn’t do schedules well’ – I’d love your relaxed summer swimming arrangement. And I totally get what you mean about playing around with blog posts. Feeling a bit productive makes me feel good too. (And fiddling with a blog means I get to put off decluttering a bit longer. ;)) Have a lovely weekend and thank you for hosting. I’m so thankful you’re still here after my long absence from my homeschooling blog!

  3. Brrr, we are definitely not ready for outdoor swimming pools in the UK! We went to an indoor one with floats today which was fun….and warm 🙂
Have a lovely summer swimming. I’ll be thinking of you as I wrap up in a cagoule to keep the rain at bay!
