Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! Have you had an amazing week? I don’t know about amazing, but aside from the fact that Brian has been sick since last Thursday, it’s been a good week. He finally gave in and went to the doctor on Monday. You know what a big deal that is for a man, right? He’s on some meds, so I think he’s finally on the mend.

We visited his parents for a July 4th cookout on Monday. Tuesday, we had the rare experience of having everyone home for the day with no real plans. No, we didn’t do anything spectacular – you know, since Brian was home because he was still sick – but it was nice having everyone all under the same roof for awhile.

power nap buddies

Apparently I wasn’t the only one who needed a power nap Monday afternoon. They’re all piled on my feet. I guess it’s good to be loved.

I also forced myself to start thinking about school planning on Tuesday. You know, since I said I’d start in July and, due to some weird space-time continuum thing wherein the month of June was sucked into a black hole or something, it is suddenly July.

I’m starting slowly since we’re really not going to start school for awhile, but that was part of the planning. We usually start in mid-July, but, by unanimous vote (including mine), we have decided to wait until August this year. That meant I had to sit down and figure out the calendar to make sure we weren’t going to go crazy due to lack of sufficient break weeks.

homeschool planning

I think I’ve got it figured out. There is a possibility of us going crazy between the middle of September and the second week in December since that only includes a 3-day break, but I think we’ll make it.

I also created myself a simple cheat sheet listing which lessons numbers fall between each test in Teaching Textbooks so I can keep up with where everyone is supposed to be. That was it for Planning Day #1.

homeschool schedule

Wednesday, I made a list of resources and activities that I don’t want to forget about this year. End of planning for Day #2. See? Baby steps.

Megan, on her own, made a list of the topics she’d like to study for school next year. That excites me! I told the kids I was all in favor of more interest-led learning for next year, but they have to take ownership of it and show me some initiative.

I was so excited that Megan included astronomy on her list because that was something I’d been thinking about, too.

Thursday Megan went rafting with the youth group from church. As a brand-new high school student, it was her first year on the big river. We were worried the weather wasn’t going to cooperate, but it did. That was good for the rafting crew but not so good for everyone else considering that we really need the rain.

It's an orange tabby thing

It must be an orange tabby thing.

Today is a pretty jam-packed day of errands and grocery shopping. Not my favorite, but I think I’m going to squeeze a pedicure in there, so it won’t be too bad.

Oh, and on the weight-loss front, I lost 2.4 pounds last week! I was so excited because I had been kind of afraid to get my hopes up. I don’t think I’ve done as well on my food choices this week with the holiday, but I’m hoping for another good weigh-in on Sunday.

Did you notice that I have a new sponsor? Around the World Stories feature original audio stories that teach kids about the world around them. The really cool thing about Around the World Stories is that it’s a family project – and the family has sold everything to travel Europe for the next year, documenting their trip and creating new stories. Talk about an amazing adventure!

I’ll have a review coming up in late-August, but go ahead and check them out. You might also want to follow their adventures on Facebook or Instagram. I’m following both and living vicariously.

  1. Your torties look so much like two of mine. Your cats are so cute. I hope your husband feels better soon. Mine has been walking around with a severely pulled muscle in his back for about a week and a half. Have a great weekend and have fun planning!
