Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve all had a fabulous week. I’ve had a decent one – fairly productive and we got some much-needed rain. Not enough, but better than nothing.

Megan headed off to Atlanta for a high school mission trip Sunday afternoon. The mission team has been conducting a sports camp for kids in a refugee community there. I’m so proud of my girl. She has always had a heart to serve others. We had to stop at Wal-mart for bubbles before she left because “kids like bubbles.”

I love that girl and her sweet, spunky spirit.

My buddies for my 20-minute power nap earlier this week.

Meanwhile, back home, my two oldest – you know, the 16-year-old and the 21-year-old – have been consumed with the Pokémon Go craze. (Megan plays, too, but she’s been gone.)

Yes, I’ve heard all the warnings about privacy, safey, and such. We live on the edge, y’all. I have Facebook Messenger on my phone, too.

I do have a Pokémon Go warning to share with you, though. I’ll just copy and paste that right from my personal Facebook page. Ready? Here goes.

Another Pokémon Go warning. You might not want to drive around your neighborhood late at night (late being after dark, but before, oh, I don’t know, 11:30 or so) playing Pokémon or trying to go the 4 miles it takes to reset whatever resets so that you can catch Pikachu or some such.

Doing so might mean that you’d have to drive around your neighborhood two or three times, depending on what size neighborhood you live in. It might also mean that you stop a time or two to catch Pokémon.

So, you might not want to do that because such a late-night excursion might cause cautious, vigilant, well-meaning neighbors (maybe even 3 of them) to call the police. One of them might even get your tag number.

That might cause a police officer to show up on your doorstep late at night, asking about the car parked in your yard and wondering what you might have been doing to make your neighbors suspicious. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a very friendly police officer who rolls his eyes and laughs when you explain that you (or those in your household) were playing Pokémon Go.

If you are lucky enough to get such a police officer, he’ll quickly see that nothing nefarious was afoot. He’ll chat with you a bit and go on his way after you apologize for causing distress and thank him for his time and service.

Not that I would know anything about any of that. I just thought you might need such a warning. Just in case.

So, there you go.

sunset

The gorgeous sunset we saw while driving the kids around chasing Pokémon Tuesday night. Milkshakes and Pokémon – an effective combination for spending time with older kids.

In other news, Brian and I have now watched all four (including the Jeremy Reimer one) Bourne movies. We’re ready for the new one coming out in a couple of weeks. I know you can rest easy now that you know that. Those are such uncharacteristic movies for me to enjoy, but enjoy and Avenger movies I do. I have no idea why.

I’ve made a few more baby steps on school planning. They are teeny, tiny baby steps, y’all. Our local curriculum fair is this weekend. I thought I might go for a bit, even though I’m planning on going to the Southeast Homeschool Expo in a couple of weeks.

However, our curriculum fair venue is on the same road as a brand-new Bass Pro Shop that just opened yesterday – a day in which police officers were directing traffic and people were being shuttled from the parking areas near the curriculum fair venue to the Bass Pro Shop. I really don’t think I want to go curriculum shopping quite that bad.

I really feel bad for the vendors because I do think it’s going to negatively impact fair attendance.

On the weigh-loss front, it wasn’t a loss this week. {sigh} I knew I wasn’t as diligent in my exercise or eating habits last week, but I was really hoping I wouldn’t gain. I did. I’m going to keep working on positive changes, though. Every good choice helps!

In case you missed it, I talking about how to have a successful and stress-free back to (home)school at About.com this week.

Now, I’m off to prepare to enjoy my weekend. I hope you enjoy yours, too!

  1. I had to chuckle at your Pokemon warning! It’s not what I thought you were going to say since all my friends are cautioning about getting hurt, walking into things, getting lost, etc.

    1. Yes, we’ve heard lots of those, too. So far it’s just been fun here. I hope it stays that way. My husband and I are on a daily data watch. It doesn’t seem like the game is using as much as we’d feared.

  2. That is so so funny, especially considering that my husband was hunting Pokemon around 11:30 at night in our neighborhood. I’m going to have to warn him and our oldest son. 🙂

  3. All this Pokemon mania is so funny to my oldest. He is 26 and in on the first craze way back when. The fountain is lovely.
    Blessings, Dawn

  4. Have you read trim healthy mama? I’ve heard mom, after mom, after mom have great success on the plan, and how it’s really a sustainable lifestyle change. I just found the book at my library, and am looking forward to it.

    1. Yes, I’ve borrowed it from a friend before. It doesn’t really appeal to me. I’d much rather just eat healthy with treats in moderation and exercise. I just have to actually do that. lol

  5. I drove past a place in my city last night where about 50 people had gathered, all playing Pokeman Go! I made my 13yo son delete it, for now. Only because he’s home alone part of the time and I don’t want him wandering aimlessly throughout the neighborhood. I cant’ even get started, lest I’ll never stop. My planner should arrive this weekend and then I must plan. Being that I work full time, it’s key, but we are aiming for a four-day school week this year so hopefully we can make that work. We need a free day. Have a blessed weekend.

  6. Oh I’m SO relieved you’re not jumping on the “vilify pokemon” bandwagon! It’s a fun, unique game, isn’t it? Loved your tongue in cheek warning 😉
