Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! We’re wrapping up another cold, blustery, rainy week here that had the bonus of being quite busy. Of course, I’m starting to think that’s the norm, so maybe I need to quit referring to it as busy and just think of it as normal.

We had the joy (that’s sarcasm) of having our taxes done on Monday. I was dreading it because I was afraid we hadn’t paid in enough through the year. On the way, Brian said it felt like we were driving to a funeral. Thankfully, it wasn’t as bad as we’d feared, which was quite a relief.

We celebrated our not-so-horrible taxes with dinner out at Chick-fil-A. Because, you know, nothing makes having to send money to the federal government better like several glasses of sweet tea. {grin}

Tuesday Brianna went to take the written portion of her exam to get her cosmetology license. She passed that and now just has to schedule her practical exam. Then, she can start looking for a full-time job. Wow. The years have flown by, y’all.

Wednesday, the teens and I headed to the indoor jump park. The kids always have fun there, hanging out with their friends. I always have fun there chatting with the other moms…but I’m not going to lie. I was not sad that the other moms had errands to run this week because I was almost to the end of the book I’d been engrossed in (Shattered, by Dani Pettrey), so I got to read for an hour and a half.

Shattered by Dani Pettrey

I had been looking for a new author and I’m so glad I was introduced to Dani Pettrey, a homeschool mom, but it is so bad for my productivity. I have to make deals with myself: Okay, I’ll write a few paragraphs, then, I can read two chapters.

Somebody tell me I’m not the only one who does stuff like that. I’ve already got the last three books in the series so I don’t finish one and have to stalk the UPS guy waiting on the next one.

All the kids wanted to go to Dairy Queen for Blizzards after the jump park. The other mom didn’t want to go in and be tempted by ice cream, so she said she was going to sit in her car and play Words with Friends. (Do you see why we’re friends?)

I said I’d sit in my car and read so the kids could hang out. Wasn’t that generous of me? You know, with my almost-finished book and all?

I had Josh bring my Blizzard out to me. {grin}

Oh, and you know how I said it was cold, rainy, and blustery? Yeah, and I was eating ice cream. I’d run my car long enough to heat it up, then, turn it off until I got really cold again. It was totally worth it to have another half hour of quiet to read. I’m so bad when I get engrossed in a book.

Wednesday was also the 25th anniversary of the day Brian asked me to marry him. We celebrate 25 years of marriage in August. I came home from running the kids around to find a huge, gorgeous bouquet of sunflowers – my favorites. They make me smile every time I look at them.

This weekend Josh and Megan are going to be at a church function from Friday night until Sunday morning. Date weekend! Knowing us, it will be a wild one. We’ll probably go out to dinner and maybe head to – are you ready? – Costco!

We’re party animals, y’all. Hey, at least it’s a step up from Wal-mart.

  1. It’s adorably sweet that you and Brian still celebrate your engagement anniversary. 🙂
    And taxes. Ugh. We have that on the agenda next week and I’m not excited.

  2. Happy 25th! Love reading about your life with teens. I’m always on the hunt for good books too – thanks for sharing, I plan to check out that series. I also loved your post on Inspirational Coloring Pages- my daughter and I are all over that one!

  3. Take out the dinner first and you have our dates! Glad to know we aren’t the only wild ones.

    I used to keep a book in my glove compartment and an emergency backup book in the center console thingy in case I got caught somewhere without a good book! Now I carry a ridiculously big tote bag with a pile of them in there instead, along with my ever-growing collection of random pretty-rock-and-pinecone discoveries from kids and a number of old grocery receipts (known as “purse mulch” by my husband).

    Happy engagement anniversary!

    1. Ah, see? I knew someone would make me feel better about my book habit. I’m going to let myself read a chapter after I finish this comment. I’m kidding. Mostly. 🙂

  4. Happy Anniversary! And congrats to your daughter for graduating!

    I’ve been so busy lately that my only reading time is late at night… which doesn’t make for very productive mornings when I’m engrossed in a good book. Will have to check out that author – sounds intriguing!
