Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday! Are y’all staying warm? It is cold here. I mean, seriously cold. Yesterday’s high was 23 degrees. I chose to live in the South for a reason and freezing my behind off was not part of that reason. I am such a wimp when it comes to cold weather. I’m ready for spring!

I earned some Cool Mom Points on Monday by taking a snow day. There was no snow. It only rained. However, in anticipation of winter storms that never materialized, all the local schools that weren’t closed for President’s Day closed for snow.

Typically, I’d prefer to save our off days for pretty weather. However, there’s just something exhilarating and rejuvenating for a kid about an unexpected day off. They had already been asking the night before because everyone else was off. Then, Brianna’s school closed, so I decided to go with it.

Brianna’s school was closed Wednesday, too, and had a delayed start Tuesday and Thursday. I probably lost my Cool Mom Points those days since I made Josh and Megan do their schoolwork. They’ll thank me this spring.

My attempt at heart-shaped cinnamon rolls for Valentine’s Day

Megan has her first gymnastics meet this weekend. She’d nervous, of course. I’m excited to watch her. I told her when she first started that I would never be one of those moms – I wouldn’t push her because this is her thing. She wanted it. If she wants to excel, she will. However, that was before I learned that the Level 3’s are always the first rotation. At 8-something in the morning.

I told her she needs to move up to Level 4 as quickly as possible. The extra hour or so of sleep is very important. #MostlyKidding

Now, I just hope we don’t have any trouble getting to the meet. Snow is predicted for today and tomorrow. There’s snow in the forecast for next week, too. Did I mention that I’m ready for spring?

Sweets for my sweeties on Valentine’s Day

Brianna is now out on the floor at cosmetology school. That means she’s finished all the coursework necessary to start working on real people instead of mannequins and has passed her first exit exam. That should be exciting, but I think it’s been pretty boring this week – not too many people are coming to get their hair done with all the closings and bad weather.

I wish I some more interesting pictures for you this week, but we’ve mostly been trying to stay warm. Next week I’ll have some better ones – you’ll get to see my girl in her competition leotard! I’m not sure how thrilling that is for you, but it’s cause for great excitement here.

I’m ready for spring. You know, just in case I wasn’t clear on that.

  1. Oh, me too Kris. I am sooo ready for Spring, or March (whichever one comes sooner) I am not a fan of February!
Looking forward to your gymnastics photos next week. I hope you all have lots of fun despite the early(ish) morning!

  2. I can’t believe we are missing this massive deep-freeze of the states!!! We love cold weather and Germany is just not giving us the goods. Our little village was blessed with lots more snow than any of the big cities around us (thank you, God!). I like your heart shaped rolls. We may need to try that simply because my daughter thought it looked cool. Have I mentioned I am so glad you still do this link up? I hadn’t blogged in nearly a year due to moving, and when I came back to it, most of my favorite link ups had shut down 🙁 Made me feel very old 😉

  3. Cold can be so very miserable. Our temperatures are lower than yours, but we’re a bit used to them. Spring will be very welcome. We’re in Ontario and I haven’t given my kids any snow days. They take way too many breaks as it is. SIgh.

  4. We don’t have as much snow as a lot of places, but it is nostril-freezing cold here….even our shaggy dogs don’t want to go outside for very long. When they are out, they lift alternate feet to try to keep from touching anything for too long.

Congratulations to Brianna and good luck to Megan!

  5. We are also sooo ready for spring. We awoke to -10 degrees yesterday morning. and that’s not taking wind chill into account. Today, a balmy -7 this morning. Around here, though, they just delay the school opening but don’t close. It’s snowy and cold far too often to take that many days off for the public schools. Of course, we just keep plugging along with our homeschooling.

  6. I agree! It should not be this cold in the South! We get cold here in Central Florida but no snow. At least it’s only cold for a day or two. Stay warm!

  7. Yep, totally done with this Alaska weather. I think I saw something yesterday that showed temps in (part of) Alaska as higher than here. So wrong. COME ON SPRING!

  8. It’s been freezing here as well – I am so ready for spring.

Congrats to your daughter for working on the floor – two of my sisters do hair and I had my fair share of ‘test-subject’ hair cuts when they wanted to practice! 😉

    1. Hmmm…sounds like you’re braver than me. I’ll let her practice on me when she’s about ready to graduate. 🙂
