Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! How’s your week been? Mine? Well, I’m thinking that I never should have posted that article about homeschool sick days a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, I tempted fate just a bit too much because I’ve been sick all week.

I guess I can’t complain because it’s the first time I’ve been sick in several years. However, I think because I haven’t been sick in so long, I had a hard time dealing with it. Read: I’ve been a whiner baby.

It’s been nice being sick with teen students, though. As predicted, they were able to carry on with little help from me. I was even able to take a guilt-free nap one day while they worked on without me.

I’ve also been highly into comfort foods. It’s been nothing but soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for me for most meals. I even discovered that Chick-Fil-A will let you sub a cup of soup for fries on a combo meal. Yes, please.

nap buddies

These were my nap buddies when I was sick – one on each side and one at my feet. They make great little space heaters.

So, basically my week has been spent hacking and coughing and blowing my nose a lot. Exciting stuff, huh?

Other than that, there was a lot of getting Josh to the church since he had to be there two days this week for a couple of hours each. I’m extremely thankful that he has a friend with a driver’s license who was willing to help with taxi service.

Wednesday, I took the kids to the indoor trampoline park. Even Brianna met us over there. They had a blast and everyone got some of that socialization they’re apparently lacking.

The only other highlight of the week was buying Megan tickets for a concert she’s been dying to go to. They weren’t supposed to be on sale until Friday. There was a pre-sale for people who pre-ordered the group’s new album, which we did, but Megan wasn’t clear on how that worked.

Unbeknownst to her, I got an email earlier in the week with a pre-sale code. I got online as soon as the tickets went on sale yesterday and ordered them.

When she got up, I talked to her as normal, acting as if nothing was amiss. I even listened attentively while she tried to explain about the presale and nodded along as she said she guessed she’d just have to wait until the regular sale on Friday and hope all the good seats weren’t gone.

Then, as she was getting ready to go back to her room, I asked her to bring me the papers on the printer – the tickets I’d printed out. She was jokingly complaining about having to walk back up the stairs. I knew the moment she realized what the papers were because she stopped talking mid-sentence.

After a long pause, thundering of footsteps was heard on the stairs as she raced back up to hug me and tell me what an awesome mom I am. I need a few of those in the bank for days when I’m not being seen as especially awesome.

This week, I’ve shared a couple of posts on About.com: 10 Preschool Busy Bag Ideas and Are Homeschooled Kids Prepared for the Real World? I hope you’ll head over and check them out.

Also, a bunch of you have asked so I think you’ll be excited to learn that Top Ten Tuesday is back! It’s being hosted on the iHomeschool Network blog. Next Tuesday, I’ll be posting my lists on the iHN blog. Get yours ready to link up!

And now, for a bit more recuperating. Enjoy your weekend!

  1. It’s nice that your kids can still get a lot done without your direction. I am fighting a head cold and hope you recover quickly! Thats cool about the concert! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Sorry you have been sick and hoping your on the mend. My kids have been sick this week and we haven’t gotten much done this week. Hoping we can get back on track next week. My favorite comfort food is homemade soup and fresh bread. We freeze some so we have it when we need it.
