Weekly Wrap-Up

Y’all, where is the summer going? I mean, I know technically it’s not even summer yet, but there are seriously only two weeks left in our scheduled summer break. I think I may have to add a week. Really. It doesn’t seem like it can possibly be time to begin thinking about starting school again yet.

The kids had an absolute blast at youth camp and I’m not exaggerating when I say that something miraculous took place while they were there. There has been a dramatic positive change in Josh and Megan’s relationship. One of the prayer requests posted for parents on Facebook while the kids were gone was for the healing of relationships. I prayed earnestly for that because theirs had really been suffering and that prayer seems to have been answered beyond my wildest dreams. I am so thankful. Camp was such a good experience for my guys.

(This is probably in my Top 10 of favorite photos of them – with my favorite being one of Josh pulling an exersaucer over to the crib so he could climb on it and peek at his brand-new sister when she as a newborn and he as only 21 months.)

The day after they came back, the kids from Josh’s music school played at a local festival. They did an amazing job and Josh had so much fun. One lady in the audience told me that this was the coolest thing she’d ever seen in her life. I kind of hope, for her sake, that she was exaggerating for effect, but the kids really did do great.

Megan has been at camp again this week – gymnastics camp this time. She’s had fun, but I think she’s ready for it to be over. She told me yesterday morning that if church camp and gymnastics camp were back-to-back again next year, she wasn’t going to do gymnastics camp. She’s ready for some rest.

(This is where I would post the photo of her from gymnastics camp that the studio owner shared on Facebook the other day. However, she looks so hot, sweaty, and exhausted in that one that I’m thinking she wouldn’t appreciate that, so I’ll post this one instead – my girls being goofy having a fake conversation because they saw me trying to take pictures of them.

I’ve had to do mental roll call each day this week to figure out who’s home. Brianna spent a couple of days running around with friends (ah, the joys of having your own money and your own transportation), Josh spent the night with a friend one night, and Megan’s been gone most of the day all week. It was kind of weird Wednesday night when I realized that they were all actually home at the same time. I guess I’ll have to get used everyone being scattered more often now that they’re getting older.

I actually managed to surprise Brian for Father’s Day this year. He mentioned, in passing, wanting a ladder like one of his friends has. I managed to sneak and get the friend’s number from Brian’s phone so I could text him, find out the details, and order the ladder. I had it delivered to my sister’s house so he wouldn’t see it. I went and got it Sunday after church. He was so surprised!

Later, we all went to see How to Train Your Dragon 2. It turned out to be a surprisingly good choice for Father’s Day. You know what I mean if you’ve seen it…but no spoilers for those who haven’t.

Thursday, I went to my sister’s office to be a guinea pig for some training they were doing. I just had to snap a photo of their offices for Brianna. I could totally see her painting the entrance to her room like this.

  1. I just love the photo of Josh behind the drums. He looks so relaxed and at home there. He reminds me of my Gary who leads worship and drums in the church band (and he’s got ginger hair to boot!).
I’ll not be showing Thomas your Dr Who picture, he might just get some ideas for his own bedroom and as he shares with his sisters I’m certain they wouldn’t be impressed by a tardis themed bedroom!

  2. We are starting school again in about four weeks. It seems to always sneak up on you, huh? Why do you start again during the summer? I live in Oklahoma and it gets too hot to be outdoors, so we go ahead and start school. When our two or three weeks of fall start, we head back outside and let school slide a bit. Then it is more heavy schooling while it is freezing before taking our ‘summer’ break.

    1. Because we school year round – six weeks on/one week off with a six week summer break and a six week Christmas break.

  3. I was just telling my husband this week that summer is almost over and he looked at me like I was crazy. At least you understand!

I love the photos of Josh in the band, he looks so grown up, but also confident of who he is.

    1. Thanks. He loves playing. That is truly his gift and he does exude and air of confidence when he’s playing.

  4. Yay for better relationships!! That is such a blessing. When there’s discord in the house, it’s never fun. God is good, and faithful – but sometimes I forget to simply ask for what I need LOL. I can’t believe how GROWN UP your kids are. Have I been reading your blog this long?? Are we really this old?? 🙂

  5. I entered your linky for the first time today, and I believe I made a mistake the first try and linked to the whole blog. The second linky is correct. I can’t figure out how to delete the first link. I’m sure you can, so go ahead. Sorry for the mess up.

  6. Your life sounds so familiar to mine–especially that part about how strange it feels to have all three of the kids home at once (and how strange it is to think that it is strange)!

  7. Your summer sounds like mine with all the comings and goings. 🙂

I love it when prayers are answered so decidedly, and it is great that the youth camp encouraged the kids’ relationship!
