Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! How has your week been? It’s been birthday/break week here. Add to that the fact that we’ve had gorgeous, fall-like weather that’s allowed me to have the doors and windows open all week and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more.

My baby turned 14 on Monday. How on earth did that happen so fast? She had a friend, who shares her birthday, over for a sleepover. They opened their presents to each other after they got up.

birthday excitement

Megan tried to convince me to let her open her gift from me and Brian while her friend was over, but I didn’t think her dad would be very impressed missing that. Since I made her wait, she just Skyped her friend once it was time to open her gift. Sometimes technology is pretty cool.

(It was a new iPod Touch, in case you’re curious.)

Because iPods make me happy!

The next day, we met some of Megan’s friends for laser tag. Then, they came over for pizza. It cracked me up that I had a house full of teens and their chosen activity was to go outside and play hide-and-go-seek.

I love those kids. It was two of Megan’s friends and two of Josh’s who are friends with Megan, too. If I had insisted on hand-picking Josh and Megan’s friend, I couldn’t have chosen better ones.

Wednesday, Brian’s parents took the kids out for lunch while I enjoyed some quiet time at home – which was much-needed considering that Megan convinced me to take her and her friend to the mall to spend their birthday money.

I am not a fan of the mall, but I am a fan of those girls, so we had fun. They had more fun than I did since they had money.

Mini Me 2.0

Even with blue hair and a hat, Facebook thinks she’s me.

Thursday was finally a low-key day at home for catching up on laundry, making menus and groceries lists, and other fun activities. (Okay, that was sarcasm about the activities, but I loved the low-key and at home parts.)

Today is grocery shopping, a bimonthly teen social event for my weird, unsocialized teen girl, a men’s retreat for my boys, and maybe – just maybe – a quiet evening at home alone for me. What’s on your agenda this weekend?

Before you go, don’t miss my review and giveaway of the awesome, hands-on map set I’ve been talking about lately. Megan and I really love it! Also, pop over to About.com where I’m answering two questions that new and would-be homeschooling parents often ask: Is homeschooling hard? and How do I give grades?

  1. Happy birthday Megan! She’s a beautiful girl, Kris, and I can’t believe she’s 14 (T turns 14 in January) Oh my goodness, where did the time go?!

    1. Yeah. I said I deserved one that looked like me. The other two look like Brian. The funny thing is, Josh and Megan look so much alike. Their baby pictures are almost identical. But, Josh still looks more like Brian.

  2. I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog for years, but I don’t think I’ve ever participated in the Wrap-Up — until today! We’ll see if I can keep up with it. 🙂

Your daughter has the cutest expressions — happy birthday to her!

    1. I’m glad you’re joining in! And, yeah, I think she’s pretty cute. 🙂 At 14 she can be a bit self-conscious, but even she liked the pictures this week. She was so excited to get her new iPod.

    1. Yeah, pretty much. It’s more than we usually spend on birthdays, but it was the only thing she’d asked for and she really wanted it.

  3. It looks like she had a great birthday! It’s so good that they share the same circle of friends, it makes planning events so much easier and more fun!

    Happy weekend!
