Weekly Wrap-Up

It’s Friday. Finally. I’m starting to think that insanely busy may just be the new normal for me. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I know I’m still not as busy as friends and family who work full-time and have kids in traditional school settings. I’m really not sure how they stay sane.

We jumped back into a full schedule this week – well, almost. There are a couple of things that we just didn’t quite get to this week that I’ve got to figure out how to work in, but they’re little extras, so we’re essentially at a full load now.

We are loving the laptops! Josh and Megan hate looking stuff up in the dictionary and thesaurus, but don’t mind at all doing it using the online version. One great benefit to online dictionaries is that most of them have the option to listen to how the work is pronounced. This is a great tool for a dyslexic kid.

I’ve also been really impressed with some of the other things they’ve done. Josh has gotten very interested in using Movie Maker to make little movie clips. He’s even nosed around and found royalty-free music to add to his clips.

Megan has been using MS Paint to make avatars and images. To me, those things are a whole lot more productive than wasting time watching TV or playing video games, which they haven’t been doing nearly as much.

Josh is preparing for his first drum performance tomorrow. He’s been taking lessons at this place whose goal is to get kids playing together in a band as quickly as possible, so they have something fun and meaningful to work toward. The school is putting on a show in their parking lot tomorrow to raise money for new equipment. There are several sets of kids who’ll be performing together. Josh’s group is playing “Wild Thing.”

See my goofy dog? That’s the cat’s basket. He’s started claiming it as his own on a fairly regular basis. Brianna says he looks like Pinkerton in it.

Y’all know how much I love All About Spelling, right? I just got our brand-new level 4 in the mail today! And, you know I’ve said that, if it had been around when my kids were younger, we’d have totally used All About Reading, right? Well, for those of you whose kids are younger, you’ll be excited to learn that All About Reading Level 3 is coming out September 9!

There is a placement test on the Level 3 page to help you determine if your child is ready for Level 3 if you haven’t used All About Reading before. You can also download an activity bundle to see what you think about All About Reading, if you’ve never used it.

I think that’s it for me this week. After a stressful day and a busy week, I think I’m ready to get off of here, go have me some sweet tea, and see if I can’t talk Brian into doing something fun tonight. Have a great weekend!

  1. It’s wonderful to keep hearing how great all about reading and spelling. We’re starting my younger two on pre-reading and level one this October and I’m starting my son on the spelling level one. It looks grab and go which will be a huge blessing this year for me.
I love the photo of your dog in the cat basket. My dog has commandeered our spare duvet and has it lying on the kitchen floor. He looks so comfy, I don’t have the heart to move him!

  2. Hey Kris,
We are starting full force next week.
We were exposed to strep the week before last and well, couldn’t start this week.
    But we did start co-Op.
I’m excited to be back in the Weekly Wrap Up Mode.
Love your posts. You guys sure are busy.
I will check out that Spelling program for sure.
    Blessings,
    Em

  3. That dog does look cute! Our puppy is sleeping in the strangest places too. He especially likes being underneath a pile of papers. I guess he feels safe. Oh well, plenty of piles of papers around here! 😀
Thanks for hosting the link up!

    1. I added your link. I don’t know why the linky was closed already – a mix-up on the date somehow. I usually have it set to close on Monday evening.
