Weekly Wrap-Up

I’m really not quite sure how it can be Friday again already. I’m telling you, I really believe I’m on a different space-time continuum. I’d planned to type up my weekly wrap-up last night and get it ready to post because I knew today was going to be a busy day, so this is going to be short and sweet. Then, I’ll turn it over and let you play.

In case you wondered, it is possible to be 43 years old and still be a big baby. How do I know? I turned 43 today and I’m feeling very big-babyish. See, in addition to it being my birthday, it’s also my husband’s company picnic day. That means that I get to spend all day out in the heat and crowds at a local amusement park.

It means my birthday dinner gets to be some greasy nastiness from said amusement park. And, I don’t even get to drive my car. I have to drive the old, yucky van with air conditioning that might work, if it feels like it. That’s because there isn’t room for all the kids and their friends (they each take one) in my car.

And, honestly, I don’t want to leave my car in the parking lot at the amusement park.

So, there you go. It is possible to be 43 years old and be a big, whiny baby. Who says bloggers only post all the good stuff?

In other, less whiny news, we did enjoy a couple of bowling days this week and yesterday all the kids and I went shopping. That was actually pretty fun. We went to Kohl’s and the girls immediately went off to their respective departments while I helped the boy find shorts.

If girls could shop like boys, clothes shopping would be a whole lot easier.

Me: Do you like these short?

Boy: No.

Me: How about these?

Boy: No. I really just want denim.

Me: Okay. These or those?

Boy: Those.

Me: Okay. Do you need a shirt? Do you like this one.

Boy: Yeah.

Me: What about flip-flops? Do you need a pair for camp?

Boy: Probably.

Me: Do you like these or those?

Boy: Those.

Shopping for the boy done. Really. Girls should be so easy.

Now, I have to go get ready to enjoy my day at the amusement park. I will have enjoyed several hours worth of hot, sticky, crowded fun by the time you read this. I’ll endeavor to be more cheerful next week.

  1. Happy birthday, Kris! I am so with you on the shopping for boys versus shopping for girls. Faster and easier. Thanks so much for the link-up, and have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Happy Birthday! May God bless you with many more years of love, health and happiness. 🙂 And for the record, it is your day and you are more than entitled to be as whiney as you’d like! 🙂 🙂

    1. (((Hugs))) I read your reply on my phone yesterday while I was at the amusement park being a grumbling, whiny baby. It made me smile…and not much did yesterday. Thank you.

  3. Happy birthday. One year -when my birthday happened to fall on the weekend and people asked if my husband was doing anything special for me – I got to say “No, he’s actually gone away for the weekend with another (younger) woman. It was a work triip….but still.

  4. Happy Birthday! I hope that you are able to have a real food dinner to celebrate another night this weekend because I agree that greasy amusement park food should not count as your birthday dinner.

    1. I haven’t gotten my make-up dinner yet, but I’ll get one or two shots at it next week while the kids are at camp. 🙂 Thank you for the birthday wishes.

  5. Oh, Kris, I feel for you!! I find amusement parks pretty much torture, unless it is about 70 degrees and I have a book and a nice bench in the shade. HAPPY BIRTHDAY anyway!! It’s OK to whine.

    1. Thank you. That really does make me feel better. I really never look forward to the company picnic. It’s always in June and it’s always hot (though it really wasn’t as bad as usual yesterday), but I usually enjoy it once we’re there. Not so much yesterday, but that was because of my own stinky attitude, which, of course, I regret today.

  6. I can agree with you about the birthday whine, but I’m not so sure boys are easier to take clothes shopping! Mine is not nearly so agreeable. Maybe too many sisters has rubbed off on him. 🙂

  7. My son is so easy to shop for too. The only color is black, there’s only one type of jeans and shirts he likes, and he wears shorts even in the winter. Usually I can buy his stuff without him even coming along!

But the girls…. Yes, that’s a different story.

I hope your day wasn’t too bad. At least the kids probably had fun!

  8. This year my birthday was spent with the worst stomach flu our family has ever had ever had and taking a kid to urgent care because he got hurt. . . . on my birthday. So a company picnic sounds good to me! lol

    1. No, that doesn’t sound like a good birthday either. Mine was topped off with three hours of walking around the amusement park in the rain. Still, I shouldn’t have been such a baby about it. Hopefully I’ll grow up some day. 🙂

  9. I’ll be turning 43 this month too, and I can confirm that you’re not alone in the ability to be 43 and still be a big baby. I also still don’t entirely know what I want to do when (if) I grow up.

Only my baby, 5, still shops like your son. The oldest has to try on a zillion things before he finds something that his shoulders don’t burst out of, and the middle child is a 12 year old girl (enough said).

Hope your birthday at the company picnic was way less awful than you expected and that you found something semi-palatable to eat! Happy birthday, Kris.

    1. The food wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t especially good either. That’s okay, I’ll get a yummy make-up birthday dinner this week – a date night (or two) with the hubby while the kids are at camp.

  10. Happy birthday Kris, you don’t look a day over 20! Hope it wasn’t as bad as you thought yesterday and that you have a lovely weekend celebrating.

    1. Yesterday was not a good day. I’ll be totally honest, though, and admit that it was almost entirely my fault that it wasn’t. Today started off much the same, but my infinitely long-suffering husband refused to rise to the bait and I finally just had to give in and admit that I was being nasty and get over it. I should have done that yesterday.

And, not a day over 20? You are a true friend. 🙂

  11. I just convinced my wife to have s special mommy/kid day and take them to a festival. Same sort of thing hot, sweaty and crowded. A day without kids, although mine are returning home hungry for supper. My freedom has a price though. Write my weekly blog post, Sink full of dishes. Dishwasher is running, empty it, reload it, Clean the counters, sweep and mop, 4 loads of Laundry. I should also probably make the cinnamon buns she’s been asking for. 🙂

    1. Sounds like a busy day for you…but, still, make the cinnamon buns. 🙂 Next week is camp week for my kids and Brian has to work. That means almost an entire week at home alone each day! I’m hoping to get a lot accomplished and I’m really going to try to make sure everyone chips in tomorrow afternoon to clean up the house so that I don’t feel compelled to spend time on housework next week. I want to get a lot of blog and school stuff done while the house is quiet.

  12. I had to laugh at your grumbling because I can so sympathize with you! I always have to spend my birthday (coming at the end of June) celebrating for someone else and at times I just get tired of it. In fact I think I was just griping about it to my husband. I hope you had a great birthday anyways!
