Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a great week. Ours has been amazing. First, a little trip down memory lane…

The year was 1983. I was 13 years old. The artist? Rick Springfield. It was my first concert ever and it was amazing. One of my teachers was there and the next day he said it was like being at a Beatles concert in the ‘60’s with girls screaming and carrying on.

Y’all, those 7,000 screaming girls had nothing on the One Direction concert Megan and I attended Wednesday. It was held in the stinkin’ Georgia Dome, a massive football stadium. There was somewhere in the neighborhood of 70,000 – yes, seventy thousand people there. It was unbelievable.

And, so much fun!

The only negative from the entire day was sitting in traffic for the 2 hours it took us to go the 3 miles from the exit off the Interstate to the Georgia Dome. Yes, two hours. I was so afraid that we were going to miss the opening act, 5 Seconds of Summer, about whom Megan was as excited as she was One Direction.

And, I had to go to the bathroom. For the entire 2 hours. Just in case you wondered. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier that I did not get a refill on my Chick-fil-A tea.

Traffic Jam

You can just see the Georgia Dome behind the tree to the left. We seriously debated crying. We had planned to arrive 2 hours early. If the concert hadn’t started 15 minutes late, we’d have missed a song or two. Thankfully, we got to our seats just minutes before the show started.

And, can you believe out of 70,000 people, we were sitting right in front of someone we knew?

Those boys put on an amazing show. We’re talking strobe lights, huge screens, pyrotechnics, streamers falling from the ceiling. I think it’d be hard to have a bad time at one of their shows even if you didn’t like their music – but I do. Not as much as Megan, but I do like it.

We even got to see a marriage proposal. She said yes.

And, here’s just a little 15 second sample of why I’m surprised I can still hear:

The breakdown?

Concert tickets….$200+
Parking pass….$30
Concert t-shirts (one for each band)….$75
Being a part of my 13-year-old’s first concert ever and a memory she’ll never forget…..priceless.

Seriously. It was worth every penny and temporary hearing damage, 2 hours in traffic, and 45 minutes thinking we were going to miss the entire first act.

Oh, and we did some school this week, too, but that’s not nearly as much fun to talk about.

    1. Definitely. I’m still basking in the glow of Fun Mama points. I figure it should carry me through the weekend at least. 🙂

    1. My kids haven’t bee to many concerts. None of them had really expressed any interest until the last year or so. Brian has taken Brianna to the two she’s been to, but I claimed this one since I actually enjoy One Direction. Megan is already talking about going to see 5 Seconds of Summer (the opening act for this show) again, but the place they’ll be at the next time has a mosh pit, which is where she wants to be. I told her if she’s in the mosh pit, her dad is taking her. 🙂

  1. I went to a couple of concerts with my parents but they were their music. I enjoyed them especially the Beach Boys. The first that I went to on my own was Pink Floyd. Unfortunately I knew I wasn’t going to be able to make it and then plans changed and I could so I bought a ticket off a scalper. It was a great concert but my ticket had me in front of an exhaust fan and everything being smoked in the building was going past me on the way out. I hadn’t drank anything and I have never smoked anything but I couldn’t walk a straight line. Fortunately I had taken public transit.
