A couple of weeks ago, we had a representative from a local healthy grocery store come to the Chick-Fil-A “get healthy” meetings I’ve been attending.  She brought sample of Luna and Clif energy bars (“minis”).  The Luna bars are for women and the Clif bars are for men — something about the ingredient make-up of the bars.

I kept forgetting to try them for several days — I was waiting until I was actually going to be working out, so I could see if they really helped my energy level.  I finally remembered to try one on a day when I’d been feeling particularly sluggish (I’ve since started taking a multivitamin, too…more on that in a future post).  Wow!  I could tell a huge difference.  Now, there’s a very strong possibility that it was only psychological, but I don’t think so.  I was trucking on the elliptical, where, a half-hour before, I’d been feeling so sluggish.

I got a couple of the Clif bar samples for Brian to try and he said he could really tell a difference, too.  We liked them so much that we went this past weekend and bought a box for each of us.  I saw the full-sized bars in Wal-mart last week, but I wouldn’t want that much.  One of the trainers from the Y said that the minis were the perfect size for her because she never could eat a whole full-sized bar.  I’ve found the minis to be plenty for me, as well.

They provide energy for my workout, while also staving off that late-afternoon hunger that often tempts me to make poor food choices when I come home from working out and still have to make supper.

I just thought I’d mention them because I noticed such a difference and thought some of you might be interested in trying them, too.  They’re only 80 calories, which isn’t bad for a snack.  My favorites are the peanut butter cookie and white chocolate macadamia.  There are lemon zest flavored ones in the variety pack I bought, but I haven’t tried them yet.  The samples we got were s’mores, which Brianna loved, and caramel nut brownie, which sounds good, but were way too “fake chocolate” tasting for me.

What about you?  Do you ever eat energy or protein bars before working out?  Which ones do you like?

I bought this product myself and am just sharing about it because I liked it.  I did not receive this product free for the purpose of reviewing it, nor did I receive any other type of compensation.
