My mother-in-law showed me how to make apple dump cake soon after Brian and I were married. It’s remained a favorite and makes a quick and easy dessert (which may not always be a good thing).

Apple Dump Cake

2 cans apple pie filling
1 box yellow cake mix
1-2 sticks of butter
Place apple pie filling in a greased 8X8 casserole dish. Cover with dry cake mix. Slice butter into squares, laying them side-by-side to cover the cake mix. Bake @ 350 degrees (F) until cake mix is browned and bubbly. And, it’s really good if you serve it with vanilla ice cream.

  1. first I LOVE your blog. 🙂 We are pretty eclectic homeschoolers too! I had to comment on your menu plan, that loaded potatoe soup looks awesome I will try it, but the other thing was you were mentioning you did not know what the recipe you had below was called that it was not really apple pie. It is actually dump cake. But apple pie sounds better. lol. You can add variations on it and add in a can of cherry pie filling or blueberry pie filling too. The best part is you can also make it in your crockpot.

  2. Potato Soup – I love Von’s version of this tummy filling soup.
Enjoy your lunch with your in-laws.

  3. I think the desert is called “dump cake”. You can use any canned filling (I’ve used pineapple) and any box of cake. Dump it together and – viola!

I’m going to have to try your soup now too- I love soups!!
