My Favorite Finds from Around the ‘Net
Today, since there is apparently nothing original or earth-shattering on my own mind, I thought I’d share with you some of the gems I’ve found around the Internet lately.

- Homeschool Mom: You Are Amazing! from Hip Homeschool Moms – This is a must-read if you need a little encouragement today. It made me a little teary-eyed.
- 15 Musical Instrument Crafts for Kids from Red Ted Art – I wish I had discovered this one a week earlier! It would have gone perfectly with last week’s assignment in our history curriculum, Ancient Civilizations and the Bible, since one of the project ideas was to make a simple musical instrument.
- What’s in a Portfolio from Heart of the Matter Online – Even if your state doesn’t require you to compile a portfolio, doing so can make a great keepsake of your child’s school year and HOTM has some great tips for building one.
- How to Use Current Events in Your Homeschool from Blog, She Wrote – The kids and I have been loving CNN Student News, so I appreciated all the tips for how and why to use current events and the additional resources Heather offers.
- The Art of Fall: Mixed Media Workshop for Kids from Flourish – This is an online art class for kids, but I fully intend to participate with Megan. It starts next Monday and we are so excited!
What’s been popular on Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers lately:
- How to Make an Edible Cell Model – It’s that time of year for those studying biology. If you’ve got to make a cell model, you might as well make it tasty.
- How to Make a Salt Dough Map – It must be social studies fair time, too, because this is the time of year everyone’s always looking for how to make 3D maps. I’ve got you covered!
- 10 Tips for Starting to Homeschool – The time is quickly passing for this one, but it’s been popular for the last couple of months.
- 10 Clues You Might be a Homeschool Kid – You know, in case your kid isn’t sure.
- 10 Clues You Might be a Homeschool Parent – I hope, if you are, you already know, but just for fun…
Have you found any gems on the Internet lately? Let me know about them!
Kris Bales is a newly-retired homeschool mom and the quirky, Christ-following, painfully honest founder (and former owner) of Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers. She has a pretty serious addiction to sweet tea and Words with Friends. Kris and her husband of over 30 years are parents to three amazing homeschool grads. They share their home with three dogs, two cats, a ball python, a bearded dragon, and seven birds.
Kris, thanks for sharing some of your favorite finds. I love the ideas Heather Woodie compiled to assist with current events. We use CNN Student News also and I’m excited to try some of these out. It was great to start my day with laughter as a reread your “you Might be a Homeschooler” posts.
