NSV: Resisting Temptation

It’s time to celebrate those Non-Scale Victories — those weight-loss moments that occurred somewhere other than the scale.  Take some time each week to reflect on those small successes that add up to huge weight-loss results for you.  Share them here and let us celebrate with and be inspired by you.

I was so proud of me this week! We usually have lunch at Chick-Fil-A on Wednesdays because we’re out for the kids’ music classes and CFA has some choices that I can eat while still staying within a reasonable calorie range.

Well, this week, my oldest two were sick, so I took my youngest to music class and picked up lunch on the way home.  I decided to get McDonald’s for the kids because I had all the leftovers for a super-delicious, low-calorie burrito bowl at home and they’ve been feeling seriously deprived of their favorite fast food fixes.  I did get myself a sweet tea, but more on that in a minute.

As we left McDonald’s, I realized that we’d wound up with an extra order of fries.  Mmmmmm…hot, salty fries.  I haven’t eaten at McD’s since I started losing weight.  I indulged in three on the way home and seriously contemplated eating the extra order with my lunch.

When I got home, I read the nutritional information on the side of the fry box.  Um, nope.  Not eating them.  I did allow myself two more, for a total of five, but that was it.  I only ate five fresh, hot McDonald’s fries.  A serious accomplishment.

Now, about the tea.  I got the whole 32 ounces — with no ice since I was taking it home, so it was all tea.  I drank the whole thing.  I used to get a McD’s sweet tea at least once a week.  I haven’t had one since December.

I usually have sweet tea at Chick-Fil-A, however, and allow myself one refill and I usually drink my less-sweet tea with supper.  I drank water for supper Wednesday night to offset the extra tea at lunch and called it even.  And, didn’t feel guilty at all.

Oh, and one other NSV that also has to do with eating.  We’ve got a local Greek restaurant that serves killer Greek salads.  I haven’t had one in forever.  I got Brian to get me one Wednesday night (he and the kids had things I probably should post about here, involving a Mexican place with a rather large bell on its logo).

The only high-fat things about the salad (yeah, I know all about how horrible restaurant salads are, but my mom used to work at this place, so I know how they’re made) were the dressing and the feta cheese (which isn’t as bad as some cheeses).

I ate all of the crumbled feta, but picked out the big squares and didn’t eat them.  I poured a little dressing on my salad and dipped my fork in it when I wanted a little more flavor.  Brian will vouch for me that there was a lot of dressing left.

All in all, I think I made some good food choices this week and was proud of being able to resist temptations.

This week I was talking to a friend who is more over weight then me and I was listening to her excuses of why she can't eat right and why she can't exercise, and I kept thinking that I do the same thing. I was determined after listening to her that I wouldn't make excuses anymore. so each time I caught myself coming up with a reason not to eat something (or to eat something bad) or not to get up and move…I thought of her and knew I didn't want to act that way any more.

    And so today my husband was determined to clean out the garage, and normally I would just let him…but I got out there and lifted and hauled and moved and cleaned and it felt good!

  2. Yeah! Good for you! That would be the equivalent of me taking only two bites of a slice of cheesecake. Very hard to do.

  3. I succumbed to the Krispy Kreme Kalories. (Had to make it alliterative, you know.) However, I was smart about it and those Kalories were spread out over three days! YAY ME!
