My daughter is a crafter-at-heart just like her momma! We often have craft supplies strewn from one end of the house to the next. There is always some type of project going on. So, as we approach each upcoming holiday, Emma starts planning crafts for them. She loves to decorate for the holidays as much as me. Get your home Valentine-ready with this quick and easy kid-made Valentine's Day banner.A few weeks ago, while killing time at Target, I found a treasure trove of Valentine’s Day craft supplies in the Dollar Spot. Who doesn’t love the Dollar Spot? Anyhow, I knew immediately that Em would love these supplies, and that she would have a blast creating a fun banner for our mantel. (This would also be the perfect way to decorate for your homeschool group’s Valentine’s Day party!)DIY Valentine's Day BannerEach of the supplies I purchased was just $1 except the puffy heart ornaments. These are actually Christmas ornaments which were on clearance for 20 cents. Can’t beat that, huh! I gave her the supplies, and let her choose what her banner would say and how she would decorate it. Valentine's Day CraftsI had her start by laying out the banner and planning what she wanted it to say. Once she decided on a saying, I had her write it out on a sheet of paper and number the letters to make sure she had enough banner pieces. This was an important step so that she could make sure she had the right number of banner pieces to fit her saying. This particular banner kit contained 18 triangles. Emma chose “Be*My*Valentine.”Some additional ideas for a banners include:

  • Be Mine
  • I <3 You!
  • I Love You
  • Happy Valentines Day
  • Kiss Me

If you run out, or prefer to make your own banner pieces, construction paper and cardstock are great alternatives to purchasing the kit from Target. Valentine's Day Crafts for KidsUltimately, she ended up using the banner kit, glitter, red yarn, and the heart ornaments. She wrote the letters in pencil and then painted the glue on with a thin paintbrush. She covered the entire ‘spacer’ piece with pink glitter so the red puffy hearts would stand out. She’s very pleased with the results. I am, too! I think it makes a lovely addition to our Valentine’s Day mantel. Valentine BannersWhat is your crafty kid’s favorite Valentine’s Day craft?

  1. This is such a cute idea. The banner really does look great. I’ll have to make one of these for next Valentine’s day.
