Did you read that post title? Yes, it says what you think it says. Are you blushing yet? I was just a tiny bit when my 16-year-old daughter was reading my Kindle book list over my shoulder and saw the title.

Her: Um, is that what that’s about?

Me: Um, yes.

Her: Okay, then. I’m going downstairs. I don’t need to know about your personal business.

The Good Girls Guide to Great Sex

I was caught off-guard, so it wasn’t until later that I thought to explain to her that this wasn’t just some random book about…you know…that, but that it’s a book about intimacy in marriage by a Christian author.

You see, the world has taken something that God created to be a beautiful source of physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy between a married man and woman and has twisted it into something cheap and often considered “dirty” or “ugly.” Author Sheila Gregoire wants to help us take it back.

If you’ve read Sheila’s blog, To Love, Honor and Vacuum, you know that she regularly speaks very openly about marital intimacy from a Biblical standpoint.

The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex isn’t for the faint of heart. Sheila very candidly tackles a subject that is so often tip-toed around and answers questions that would make your pastor blush. However, it’s all done from the absolutely correct point-of-view that sex is something God created for husbands and wives to enjoy together.

“Do bad girls really have more fun? Surveys say no. The women who are most likely to enjoy sex are married and religious. In other words, they’re Good Girls!

But good girls know that making sex great isn’t about acting trashy. It’s about recognizing what God really designed sex for, and then learning how to reap all these benefits and joyfully enjoy your husband.

Frank and contemporary, The Good Girls’ Guide to Great Sex will give the newly engaged and new brides—and some veteran wives—a Christian resource to answer their most intimate, and embarrassing, questions.

In a conversational style, with lots of humorous anecdotes, the book will show that sex isn’t just physical: it’s also an emotional and spiritual experience. And we’ll learn why commitment in a Christian marriage is the perfect recipe for a sex life which is out of this world!”

There is a section just for those women just entering marriage relationship,  straightforwardly answering questions that many women would be embarrassed to ask their mothers.

Sheila also tackles common problems – those of both men and women – that affect a couple’s physical relationship and offers insight on how to overcome them. She sheds light on the question of what is acceptable in the Christian marriage bed, while cautioning against allowing the world’s clouded view of sex to overshadow the physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy it was intended to bring to your marriage.

I really appreciated the valuable insight offered in Sheila’s book. Even after 20 years of marriage, I learned some things about myself that surprised me. No, I’m not going to tell you what they were, but I feel like this book has opened my eyes to some areas where I had unknowingly built some walls between my husband and myself.

So, whether you’ve been married a few weeks or a few decades, I think you’ll find something in The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex that will improve the intimacy in your marriage relationship.

  1. Want it! I believe that Christian Marriages should be coveted by all because we are so satisfied, contented, flirtatious with each other after a billion years of marriage. Sadly, this is not the case for most…but we are working to help change that perspective. 🙂
I want the book to read an see if it is a resource I can PASS ON as well.

  2. I would love to win this book!  As a "veteran" wife, this is an area that I am interested in very much.  I especially love the idea that it's based from a Christian point of view.  Wish me luck!

This book looks so interesting.  I went to her site and read all about it….and have read a few interviews about the book where she answers more questions about it.  I think it's awesome that people can get a book based on Christian principles about sex and intimacy 🙂  Mine would blush too if they read over my shoulder and saw the title LOL  Anyhow….entering to win !!!

  6. I always appreciate Christian authors, especially women, who are willing to tackle this topic and not shy away from things that really need to be talked about. I can't wait to read this book!

  7. I had heard about this book before, and wondered if it was worth the read. Thanks for sharing your opinion, and I would love to win a copy of my own. 🙂

  12. I would love to win a copy to give to a friend, because I'm not sure I want to share my copy 🙂

  13. OK, I'm entering as a Canadian… I'm not sure why a book by a Canadian author is part of a US only giveaway?  Anyway, I do have a US address I could get it shipped to.

I already own this book, but I think it would make an excellent gift for my sister-in-law that is getting married this summer!

  14. It has to do with Canadian giveaway laws and covering myself legally. It had nothing to do with the author's stipulations.

  15. I would love to win! Your initial relating of the interaction between you and your daughter made me chuckle, by the way!  I wasn't that interested at first, but your review makes me want to read it.

  16. I really would love to have this book.  I've been following Sheila's blog for a while.  Love her!  Thanks for the chance.

  17. I'd LOVE to win! I'd love to do this for my husband… we have two small kids, and I know it's important to him, but it is truly one of the very last things on my radar and list of things I want/need to do. I'd love to enrich our marriage in this way… and this would be a blessing to us!

  18. Would love to get this book! Getting married in august 🙂 and as a weird unsocialized homeschooler myself, id love the advice! :))

  19. LOVE this!  Whoever said bad girls have all the fun doesn't know what God created – period!  I want this.

  20. Well if you can learn something new after 20 years of marriage, then I can learn something new after ten, right?

  21. I am engaged at the moment and will be getting married this summer.  Hoping this would be a good way for us to start off a healthy relationship together this June. 🙂

  22. How funny!  I was just listening to A Love That Multiplies by Michelle Duggar yesterday, and the last chapter covers this very same thing.  I would love to win this!  Thanks!
