And then there was that time…

So, here’s a funny story for you. Yesterday morning, I woke up and turned on my phone to check my email. It’s kind of my start-the-day ritual because it’s always a possibility that the whole Internet just went right off the rails while I was sleeping. I mean, really, how can it continue without me?

So, I opened up Gmail and the first email message was a copy of my blog post, The 10 Commandments of Homeschooling. (Yes, I subscribe to my own blog so that I know if anything ever goes wrong with email delivery.)

I think my very first words of the day yesterday were something along the lines of, “Oh, crap! That was supposed to be tomorrow’s post!”

Yeah, that’s how my Monday started. I wrote the post on Saturday and scheduled it to post, I thought, on Tuesday. I had a note in my planner to proof-read and polish it up on Monday. Except, apparently, I scheduled it to post on Monday instead.

So, RSS and email subscribers, along with anyone who visited my blog between the hours of 6:00 and 8:30 AM got the unpolished, unproofed copy before I got all my theres, theirs, and they’res straightened out. Consider it your special treat for being a subscriber/getting up early.

That means that now, instead of getting to read some clever, tongue-in-cheek something or some amazing tip that’s going to revolutionize your homeschool (because we all know how often I share those), you get this story about posting gone awry.

I invite you to read my List-It Tuesday post from yesterday, The 10 Commandments of Homeschooling. Afterward, you can link up your post, tell your own funny can’t-believe-I-did-that story, or just leave me a comment saying, “Hey, I read your post before you proof-read it and totally caught that spot where you used the wrong their and left out ‘is’ and I just shook my head and thought, ‘I can’t believe she’s homeschooling her kids and can’t even use proper grammar.'”

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Hey Kris, It’s been a long time since I commented, but your post this morning just cracked me up so I had to come in here and tell you thanks for writing your blog. I saw your post yesterday (probably in the 6-8:30 window) but it was too early for me to notice anything wrong with it other than that it wasn’t your usual Monday-type post. I thought it was very funny and clever and I loved the tongue-in-cheek humor of it. You are a great writer, and I love coming to your blog because of your down-to-earth, here’s the way it really is in our day-to-day life style. I love it that you don’t hide the mistakes and that you tell us honestly when something is or isn’t working. Thanks for doing what you do!

    1. You don’t know how it made me smile to learn that there is someone out there who reads my blog enough to recognize that yesterday’s post wasn’t my usual Monday-type post. Seriously. Thank you for your wonderfully encouraging comment…and for not noticing my typos and grammar errors. 🙂

  2. You’re so funny. I didn’t notice a thing-lol. How many times have we all sent off a non-polished email, etc? I just did it this morning. I do love how your so light-hearted about things. Made me smile today.

  3. That is funny on SO many levels! Mostly it’s funny to me because I realized it was your Tuesday post and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how I’d lost a day. I even asked the kids “what day is it?”
    Thanks for the chuckle!

  4. I have done that before, in a different way. I was jotting down ideas for a future post on the WordPress app when I hit “post now” instead of “save draft”. Thankfully I caught it before the email feed went out, but it was there in all it’s outlined, uncompleted glory for about 10 hours! Every now and then it shows up in the nRelate suggestions just to taunt me…{sigh}…

Seriously, I still love reading your blog after all these years because you keep it real and add a bit of humor to my days :-). Thanks for making me smile today!

    1. Okay, the part about the post showing back up in nRelate to haunt you made me laugh. Ah, humor only fellow bloggers understand. 🙂
