Today is Global Giving Day and I am partnering with Mercy House Global to empower oppressed women around the world. No, no one is paying me to write this post or help spread the word. I’m doing it because I so strongly believe in what Mercy House and other similar organizations are trying to do.

I am spreading the word to help organizations like Mercy House which works to rescue pregnant and impoverished girls in Kenya or Rahab’s Rope, which works to rescue women from the sex trafficking industry in India.

Or Caring for Korah, a ministry that serves the poor in Ethiopia or Beauty for Ashes Uganda, working to empower single mothers and widows in Uganda.

How can you partner?

1. Support Mercy House financially. You can donate to Mercy House with either a regular monthly donation or a one-time donation. You can also sponsor a Mercy House graduate or a new Mercy House resident or choose Mercy House as your charitable organization for shopping through Amazon Smile.

2. Purchase items from the Mercy House Wish List. You can purchase items from the Mercy House Wish List. Granted, some of the items are of the big-ticket variety, so perhaps you are part of a group that might want to pool their funds to purchase one of these items.

3. Join Fair Trade Friday. Fair Trade Friday is a monthly subscription service featuring handmade items from artisans in 27 countries around the globe. These artisans are paid a fair wage for their work, enabling them to support themselves and their families with dignity. I’ve been a member of Fair Trade Friday for a couple of years now and I love it! Currently there are three options, the original club, the Earring of the Month, and the Bracelet of the Month.

4. Host a Mercy House party. You can host a Mercy House party in your home where your friends can shop a selection of fair trade products. If you own a business, there is even a wholesale option for purchasing products for resell.

5. Shop fair trade through Mercy House. Remember the online Mercy House store when shopping for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. You can purchase fair trade products made by the Mercy House partnership organizations.

6. Shop fair trade directly through an organization. If you have a favorite organization, you can also shop directly through them. I was such a fan of the homemade soap that I received in a Fair Trade Friday box a year or so ago that now I regularly purchase soap directly from The Zambian Soap Company.

7. Organize a fundraiser. Organize a fundraiser for Mercy House (or whatever organization you’re passionate about). You might have a yard sale or bake sale or sell doughnuts or Chick-fil-A calendars or whatever. If you’re a blogger, you might consider doing a flash sale of any products that you offer and donating the proceeds to Mercy House.

8. Pray. Pray for the Mercy House team – the staff both in the U.S. and Kenya, the residents, the graduates, the babies, and the volunteers. Pray for the fair trade partners and their families. Pray for oppressed women around the globe who have not yet found an organization to empower them. Ask God how you can help.

9. Visit She Is Priceless. Visit She Is Priceless today to learn more about 5 different organizations to which you can donate. Learn how to spread awareness via social media.

A pearl is a healed wound.  An oyster protects itself from irritation and suffering and the result is a priceless pearl.  The women we support have endured unthinkable suffering in their lives and often feel forgotten.  We are joining together to remind the world that every woman matters.

10. Put on your pearls! Today, put on your pearls, take a “selfless selfie,” and share on social media with the hashtag #putonyourpearls to raise awareness and empower oppressed women.

How will you help today?
