Weekly Weigh-In

Shhh…maybe if I don’t mention it, you won’t notice that the Weekly Weigh-In is a day late.  If you did notice, though, I’d just have to explain that I was too busy enjoying my birthday weekend (yes, we enjoy extended birthday celebrations around here) to find time to sit down and post.

I was a little hesitant about weighing on Monday.  As I mentioned last week, the USB cable for my bodybugg went on the fritz and I had to wait for a replacement (which finally came Tuesday evening and did, thankfully, solve the problem).  I know that could still track my calorie burn with the digital display and I still could have been logging my food on the website, but there is, apparently, for me, something about seeing it all together in black and white, which I couldn’t do without uploading my info.

It was kind of an interesting experience for me, though, because when I finally got my cable and was able to get everything updated, I realized what a huge motivator my bodybugg is for me.  I can definitely say with confidence now that I don’t think I would have been as successful with out it.

Okay, now you’re probably thinking that I’m beating around the bush, trying to avoid admitting to a bad weigh-in.  Nope!  I like to look at this week’s weigh-in as my body’s birthday gift to me because I didn’t think I’d done too well.  However, I lost 2.8 lbs.!!!  That puts me at an even 54 pounds lost since Thanksgiving.  A very nice way to start off my birthday.

In keeping with the birthday pleasantness, we went out to lunch, followed by shopping.  It is so nice to be able to skip the plus section now!  And it’s really, really nice to be able to shop the clearance racks and actually find things.  And, it’s really, really, really nice to find clothes that fit that you actually like, rather than being forced to buy something just because it fits.

I found several blouses and a pair of Capri pants.  A couple of the blouses were large, but some of them were mediums!  And, they fit!  The Capri pants were size 12!  I can’t even remember the last time I was in a size 12.  If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say it’s been at least 11 years, because I’m sure it was before I got pregnant with Josh and he’s 10.

I also got a new bathing suit in a size 12 and a cute zip-up hoodie that I just had to have because it made me look so thin.  I said that to Brianna and she said, “You are thin.”  (I love that kid.)  I told her that I know I still have a way to go, but something about the way the jacket was made really made me look thin.  Brian and the other kids said the same thing when I tried it on for them.  The icing on the cake was that I got it off the 80% off rack.  It’s so hard to find good sales on plus size clothing that fits.  I may have to get a part-time job as I get closer to my goal weight.  Shopping is actually fun now.

Below is my attempt at a 40th birthday self-portrait photograph.  Because the light was behind me and I was trying not to use the flash, I really had to adjust the exposure and colors to make me something other than a dark blob.  It wasn’t exactly what I was going for, but it’s the best I’ve got…and I thought it’d be fun to make a photo of myself with my new camera on my 40th birthday – underexposed and adjusted to pretty much overexposed or not.

  4. Hi Kris. You have no idea how you have inspired me to change my life habits. Thanks to reading about your hard work here, I am now a card carrying gym member and am starting my 3rd week of working out. This is a major first for me. Thank you for sharing your life this way, and may God continue to bless you richly!

  5. Way to go girl. I'm pregnant now, and already dreading all the extra weight I'll have to lose at the end. Oh well, I guess it worth it! 🙂

    Shopping is torture now though!
