Weekly Weigh-In

It’s that time again…time for the Weekly Weigh-In.  If you don’t have an accountability partner at home, you’ve got one here!  So, good or bad, tell me how you did on the scale this week and let me encourage you or celebrate with you.  It’s also your opportunity to “weigh-in” on any other aspect of weight-loss or healthy eating that may be on your mind this week.  You can either blog your weigh-in and link up or leave your results in the comments section, whatever is easier for you.

Well, it was one of those weeks for me.  I was afraid it was going to be because I’d checked the scale about mid-week and it didn’t look like I’d lost much.  I hadn’t.  I lost 0.2 lbs.  But, you know what?  It’s just like my son said – at least I lost instead of gained.  And, I feel so energetic, strong, and healthy and have a better self-image than I’ve had in years, so I’m not stressing at all that I had an off week.

I am, of course, trying to look back and see what happened.  It could have been a number of things, or a combination of several.  For one thing, some water retention may be going on since it’s that week.  You ladies know the one.  More likely, though, we ate out much more than usual because my husband was off the first part of the week.  Although I made good choices when we ate out and didn’t do anything that made me feel guilty afterward, it’s still harder to control your calorie intake when you’re eating out.

I also didn’t do a very good job of logging my food consumption last week.  That was partly because it was such a busy week and partly because it’s a pain to try to log dining out calories, particularly when it involves places that we don’t go regularly.  My outlook, though, is that it was still a loss and we’ll be eating at home the majority of this week, so I can just get back on track.

In addition to my weight weigh-in this week, I wanted to weigh in on healthy eating.  You hear a lot about organic foods these days.  I don’t typically buy organic because it tends to be more expensive and I just haven’t jumped on that bandwagon yet.  However, last week at the Chick-Fil-A weight-loss event, we had a guest speaker from a local healthy grocery store.  She passed out of list of the “Dirty Dozen” and the “Clean Fifteen.”  The former is a list of the 12 foods you should buy organic, when possible, to reduce your exposure to pesticides; the latter are the 15 foods that you don’t have to worry so much about.

These lists are from the Environmental Working Group and and I thought you might be as interested in them as I was.

Dirty Dozen

  1. Peaches
  2. Apples
  3. Bell peppers
  4. Celery
  5. Nectarines
  6. Strawberries
  7. Cherries
  8. Kale
  9. Lettuce
  10. Grapes (imported)
  11. Carrots
  12. Pears

Now for the Clean Fifteen:

  1. Onion
  2. Avocado
  3. Sweet corn
  4. Pineapple
  5. Mango
  6. Asparagus
  7. Sweet peas
  8. Kiwi
  9. Cabbage
  10. Eggplant
  11. Papaya
  12. Watermelon
  13. Broccoli
  14. Tomato
  15. Sweet potato

I thought those lists were pretty handy, especially with spring — and fresh fruits and veggies — right around the corner.  That’s probably more than enough rambling from me today.

How did you do this week?

  2. YAY YOU! Anything is better than nothing, and an off week won't ruin your progress.

I am awful and forgot to weigh in this week. I'm sure that I'm up at least a pound though. (Thank you, eating out! RAWR!) I will be so glad when this moving is done and over!!
