Weekly Weigh-In

It’s Weekly Weigh-In time!  Ready for your weekly dose of accountability? If you haven’t been listening to the Made to Crave webcasts, I strongly encourage you to do so.  They have been fabulous.  I missed last night’s, but I’m making plans to catch one of the re-broadcasts today.

Last week, one of the guests quoted from the book, Made to Crave.  She said, “I am not defined by a number on a scale.

Too often we let our whole sense of success or failure rest in what number the scale decides to stop on during any given week, but that number doesn’t define who we are as a person.

I knew, when I stepped on the scale this week, that I probably wasn’t going to like the number I saw.  While my exercise level for most of the week was beyond reproach, I knew my activity level toward the end of the week – for reasons beyond my control – was not enough.

I also knew that, although my workouts had been great, I’d overeaten a couple of days, mostly due to eating out and not having my normal level of control over what I ate.

I lost 0.6 pounds.  Yes, it’s a loss, but it’s not my goal of 1.5 lbs. per week, it’s not enough to recover from my gain last week, and it’s not enough to help me achieve my goals  by my birthday (my goal date).  Does it make me less of a person?  Absolutely not!  Does it make me frustrated with myself?  You betcha!  Does it make me want to throw in the towel and quit?  Not a chance!

I looked back over my 3X5 cards where I log my weight each week and I’ve been in the 150’s since July of last year! That’s unacceptable.  Yes, I’ve done a great job of maintaining, but I’m not done losing.  This week, my focus is on maintaining my workout schedule every day and making sure that I am carefully counting calories.

I want have the kind of focus this week that allows me to step on the scale and answer correctly, for lack of a better term, the following questions from Lysa Terkeurst’s book, Made to Crave:

  • Did I overeat on any day this week?
  • Did I move more and exercise regularly?
  • Do I feel lighter than I did this time last week?
  • Did I eat in secret or out of anger or frustration?
  • Did I feel that, at any time, I ran to food instead of to God?
  • Before hopping on the scale, did I think I’d had a successful, God-pleasing week?

I hope you’ll join me by making it your goal to answer those six questions “correctly” next week.  Do or do not, there is not try!

  1. I gained 1.2 pounds. Yes, a 1 pound gain two weeks in a row! I thought about "taking a pass" for this week, but I decided that the accountability is more important than my embarrassment over it. I honestly don't know what happened. I didn't walk as much last week, but I wasn't slacking. I shoveled snow for 4 hours on Wednesday. I did 30 minutes of heavy cardio one day. (And pulled a muscle in my lower back during one of those activities.) But I can honestly say that it has made me more determined than ever. I'm not discouraged. I'm just annoyed!

  2. I agree. Owing up to it and moving on is the best policy. I completely get the "just annoyed" part, too. Here's to a better week for both of us this week!

Funny thing about my weigh-in, I weighed again this morning, which I almost never do (I'm a once-a-week-with-a-mid-week-check kinda girl) and I was down TWO POUNDS from yesterday! I'm thinking I might need to change my weigh-in day to Tuesday. 😉

  3. I gained a pound this week too. On Saturday I had some "alone time" while everyone else was at their activities and I bought myself a fattening frappucino. It was yummy and I truly enjoyed it.
My undoing was during the Super Bowl get together. I drank soda the entire time, instead of water and had indulged in one of the most yummy desserts I've had in ages.

So yes, I did gain a pound…but it wasn't because of binge eating (my normal tendency), so I'm good with that.

Next week will be better for us all!
