Weekly Weigh-In

It’s Weekly Weigh-In time! How’d you do this week?  Let me know by leaving your results in the comments or leaving a link to your weigh-in post in the comments.

So, how’d I do?  Not so good.  For the first time since Christmas week, I gainedUgh!  I had checked the scale midweek and it wasn’t looking too good, but I thought I’d pull it out because I was still working out regularly and trying to watch my calories (though I was a little more lax in that area last week than I have been).  I gained a pound.

I really think it goes back to that “my body becoming more efficient” thing.  I mean, I did have a couple of days where I exceeded my calorie consumption goals for the day — but, I still had a calorie deficit those days, just not as much as usual.  I also had one or two days where I didn’t make my calorie burn (even though I worked out).  Still, I didn’t think that it would result in a gain.

That being said, though, I guess gains are inevitable in this journey and this is only the second one I’ve had in twenty weeks, so I’m not going to stress over it.  That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to worry about it, as in being blase about it, but I’m not going to stress over it.  I’m just going to make sure that I’m going full-out with my workouts this week (I bumped it up to Level 3 of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred today and 30 minutes at 3.5 mph and 4% incline on the treadmill vs. 20 minutes at 3.3 mph and 4%) and being diligent in my calorie-counting.

I’m sincerely hoping that the results, next week, will be what they’ve been in the past when I’ve had an off week or two — 3, 4, or even 5 pounds gone.  I’ll take the two that will put me at 40 lbs. lost, though.

  1. Your attitude about it is great! I'm sure you'll be down again next week.

I can't wait to get my BodyBugg and join you in the rest of the journey!

  2. Ah well. Next week it is then, for your 40# milestone!

I was down a total of 14#, but I have gained back 2# because I have really slacked and fallen back into my old snacky habits. I am refocusing myself starting today!

  3. A pound? A POUND? You don't even want to know how much weight I've gained lately. Ugh.

Like you said, a gain here and there is inevitable. You've done so well on this journey so far!

Can I ask you a personal question? If not it's okay. But around "that time of the month" I am a bottomless pit, hungry all the time. Plus sometimes, but not always, I seem to retain a ton of water. Do you struggle with any of this? Have you learned any tips or tricks for dealing with it?

  4. Cheryl,

I don't really get hungry. I sometimes get cravings for chocolate or salty stuff. I keep some miniature chocolate bars in the fridge for when I get an irresistible craving for chocolate. I figure one mini bar is better than a full-sized one. Thankfully, I don't get into the mini ones very often. I usually forget they're there.

Now, that stupid time of the month was last week. Strangely enough, my body tends to have a delayed reaction to it, which may be why I gained this week. I can hope anyway.

  5. I've only recently found your blog through a friend who reads it, and I'm so glad that I did. I started my own journey toward better health on February 8th. I have a lot more to lose than you do, but knowing that someone is out there who understands what I'm facing each day is so comforting for me. You are right that one gain is not going to keep you down. I will be looking forward to your next weigh-in post. Also…as of today, I've lost 11 lbs. It's slow, but it's happening. I've had one gain in the 9 weeks since I started. I'll be a regular reader from now on. Your blog is fantastic! Thanks for being so open and honest about the ups and downs, thoughts and feelings.

  6. I'm glad you found me, too, Kendra! It's nice to have you along for the journey.
