Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! Welcome to the last Weekly Wrap-Up of 2017. It’s hard to believe Christmas is Monday and we’ll be starting a new year the following week. This year has flown by.

This will be the last Weekly Wrap-Up for this year, but I’ve been contemplating the idea of discontinuing it. Now that my kids are in high school and working independently, I feel like a broken record each week with random bits from my life thrown in.

On the one hand, the reason I started the Weekly Wrap-Up was so I’d have a spot for sharing the personal tidbits from my life. On the other, my own posts really don’t seem to be in keeping with the theme of the link-up.

If I decide that it’s time to let the Weekly Wrap-Up go, is there anyone who would be interested in hosting? I’d be willing to pass the torch. Just leave me a comment or shoot me an email if you’re interested.

This week has been a whirlwind of activity trying to get online projects along with Christmas shopping completed. I have a couple more last-minute things to pick up. Plus, I guess I’m going to have to purchase something else for my niece since the thing I ordered on December 6 hasn’t even shipped yet even though it was supposed to ship within 10 days. {Grrr!}

I did find one of three stockings I was looking for. I bought two stockings like this in the early 2000’s:

I have since wished that I’d bought 5 and have searched for them with no luck over the years. This year, I decided to turn to social media and the Internet. One of the ladies who follows my Facebook page found one on Etsy. (It was listed as a vintage Christmas stocking. I tried not to let that make me feel too old.)

If you or someone you know has two more of these (or the same style but with a snowman instead of the snowflake), just lying around, let me know. I’d love to buy them! I don’t need them by Christmas or anything. I just want to have a set of 5.

Today is our third (I think) annual teen Christmas party. I love it because it’s totally low-key – as in, we decided last week that it would be today. That’s pretty much how it gets planned every year. I’m going to pick up some pizzas and I bought chips and sodas yesterday. One of the moms is sending something sweet and – viola! – planning is done!

It’s just a chance for the kids to hang out and exchange gifts with their friends all at once rather than chasing them down here or there. The party is also a reminder of how much I love my kids’ friends. I seriously could not have hand-picked a better group of kids and I love each of them.

We’re making progress on wedding plans, too. We have a venue which means I can announce a firm date – April 28, 2018. Yes, 2018. Just barely more than four months from now. {Ack!} I think I already feel new grey hairs sprouting.

It’s going to be a busy winter, that’s for sure. Hey, we probably won’t suffer from cabin fever this year. We won’t have time!

Now, I’m off to enjoy the first of four straight days of Christmas festivities. I’ll be taking a blogging break until after the first of the year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, friends!

  1. How exciting that you have a firm date! We had an April wedding and it’s lovely that time of year (and you don’t over heat in the wedding duds.)

I do hope you decide to keep the Wrap Up, I like hearing what’s going on with your teens and soon to be married woman!

    1. {Ack} Soon-to-be-married woman. Even though I’m planning a wedding, I still haven’t wrapped my mind around that.

  2. Yeah, I feel your pain about gifts not arriving on time in spite of shipping date guarantees–that’s happened with 3 different gifts for us! Wishing you a merry Christmas anyway!!!! 🙂

  3. I understand how you feel about feeling like a broken record. With older teens, we just don’t have those adorable crafts and cute stories any more. I so appreciate the space you have provided all these years. For me, it’s a reminder that I DO still homeschool, even if it’s mostly hands-off. I do hope you continue–I even resolved this morning to participate more regularly– but I completely understand if you are ready to pass the torch. Thank you for all you do!

  4. Hi Kris!

I just sent you an email – I have the snowflake stocking and the snowman stocking! 🙂 I am happy to send them to you. 🙂 I have loved the Weekly Wrap Up for many years, and I would love to host it. Let me know if you think I’d be a good fit. Love your blog, as always, and Merry Christmas!

  5. Been following you for years-love your wrap up. Can’t believe how everyone is growing up so fast! I am Currently trying to get back into being hands on again (my oldest 3 are teens) and the youngest are almost 4 & 7. It’s like riding a bike-right? I honestly don’t even remember how kid #3 learned how to read. 😬

  6. Oh, bummer! I have been pretty intermittent about participating in the wrap-up more recently, but have been around for years, sometimes linking up, sometimes not. I’d decided to be more intentional and regular about it… and now it’s going away?

I’d happily host it; I’ve been thinking that I’d like to have a regular linkup of some sort, and the wrapup was already taken, so . This one is the first one that I ever participated in, and holds a special place.

    1. It’s not going away. I’ve got a new host and we’ll be transitioning in February. I’ll still be participating on a regular basis, just not hosting.
