Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a great week. We have – because it was our last one before we begin our Christmas break! I’m doing my happy dance.

Basically, we spent the week tying up loose ends. You know, do your math until the test, then you’re done until after break (no sense starting a new chapter for one or two lessons), finish the book you were reading, get your science quiz done. Fun stuff like that.

Megan also wrapped up her photography class. I really hope the instructor will decide to do another class next semester. She really enjoyed it.

Josh has spent a lot of time learning songs for the big youth Christmas event at church this weekend. He is such a phenomenal guitar player. I love to listen to him play.

He’s going to have a busy weekend. His birthday is Saturday. I’m not quite sure how my baby boy can be 17. {sigh} He’s having some friends over Friday night. Then, Sunday he plays for the worship team on Sunday morning and the youth worship team Sunday night.

The birthday boy last week with a real, honest-to-goodness smile when his BFF gave him a gift he’d really been wanting.

His two BFFs, Megan, and her BFF are all on the Sunday night worship team, too. I love that group of kids. I seriously could not have hand-picked better friends for my kids. Brian and I are seriously considering crashing the youth party so we can see them all leading worship together.

Another thing we’re going to have to do this weekend is get our Christmas tree up. There is only one other time in our whole 25+ years of marriage that I can recall us waiting this long to put the tree up. I haven’t bought the first present either – well, that’s not exactly true. I have bought my niece’s gift, but nothing for my kids at all. The UPS man is going to have a busy day once I sit down and do my Amazon shopping.

Don’t miss the giveaway I’ve got going on for a really impressive subscription service. I’m giving away a 3-month subscription to Know Yourself. They are committed to empowering kids with self-literacy, a grounding knowledge of themselves (anatomy, physiology, and psychology), to increase their self-confidence, and make them better at school, sports, friendships – everything!

We have been really impressed with the items in the kits we received. I think you’ll love them, too. This would make a fantastic Christmas gift idea. Just sayin.’

Jack was sitting in my lap the other day. I don’t think it was affection. I think it was a comfortable spot to sit in front of the heater.

Also, I shared 8 Ways to Get Homeschool Dads Involved at About.com this week. The tips are also applicable to moms if Dad is the primary teaching parent.

Now, I’m off to prepare for a birthday party (I can already taste the DQ ice cream cake!) and think about putting up a Christmas tree. Have a great weekend, y’all!

  1. Tell Josh Happy Birthday! My 4th oldest turned 15 on Wednesday. Where does the time go? Enjoy your weekend and enjoy your Christmas break. Our teenagers start theirs after next week because they didn’t start until the last week of August, but we’ve been keeping things light since my younger kids started their break a few weeks ago. Now’s a good time to experience learning through living, right?

  2. No tree here yet either! I’m trying to find a day when we’re all home at the same time, but with the husband taking a part time job in the evenings we’re just not making it happen yet!

Josh is such a handsome young man! I hope his birthday was awesome!

Seriously, I’d crash the teen event too if my kids were singing!

    1. We did crash it – along with two other sets of parents! LOL The parents of my kids’ two BFFs who were also part of the worship team came, too. The kids did a FANTASTIC job! I’m glad we went. I hope we didn’t embarrass them too much.
