Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! What has made your week amazing? I’m ecstatic that it finally feels like fall! As I write this, I’m sitting wrapped in my amazing blanket (It has a terrible review on Amazon, but only because it is a fraction of the cost at Costco, where I got mine.) with my doors and windows open, enjoying the cool, crisp fall air.

We live in the South, so it will probably be full-on winter in a week or two. I love living in the South, but I wouldn’t mind being somewhere with actual seasons.

The cats are loving the fall weather, too.

School has been fairly routine. It weird that we’ve already been in school long enough that the kids are starting to wrap up some areas – Megan is finishing up her Titanic study in preparation for World War I, and they’re both finishing their first long-term assigned reading.

We’ve started using the free daily writing prompts from WriteShop, and that’s going well.

I tried a new recipe that week that was easy and tasty – a one-pan deal perfect for busy nights and requiring little clean-up. Those are my favorite kinds of meals! It was one skillet Mexican chicken and rice and you have to make the optional-but-shouldn’t-be jalapeno ranch dressing. Yum!

It’s also the start of pumpkin everything season, so I had to make a pumpkin crunch cake for dessert last night. Mmmmm! I used to think that I didn’t like pumpkin, but it’s the heavy spices in traditional pumpkin pie that I don’t like.

Okay, seriously, those are probably the highlights of my week. Just one of those calm, ordinary, perfect-for-an-introvert weeks. In case you missed it, I shared 9 Things You Don’t Want to Hear About Homeschooling over at About.com this week.

  1. That pumpkin recipe looks so yummy! I live in the Northeast, and it feels like fall hasall but skipped us here, too. Last week we were sweating, and as I write this, I’m sitting here in a hoodie, freezing. Ugh. I hate winter. Anyway, have a great weekend, and thanks for the linkup!

  2. Yum that cake looks scrummy! (Why do I always come over quintessentially British when I’m commenting here?! Maybe after doing all the translations for yellow cake mix and cool whip!) Thank you for hosting, as ever, Kris. Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

  3. Fall is my favorite season and I’m so glad that it’s here as well! We’re currently living in Michigan so I’ll enjoy the month or two of Fall before the onset of the never ending Winter that finally lets us go sometime in late April or Early May. Looks like you had a fun week! Thank you so much for doing this link up!

  4. We’ve had nothing but cool temps, clouds and rain this week so it doesn’t feel much lie fall. I went right from tank tops and shorts to hoodies, yoga pants and thick socks. I’m hopeful we’ll get some “fall” like weather soon. I want to get out and hike and enjoy the colors (not that it’s very colorful yet this year). We too had a pretty quiet week mostly at home and I just love how much we can get done that way!
