Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! Before I say anything else, I want to say that my thoughts and prayers are with those who have been personally impacted by the shooting in Las Vegas, whether they be first responders, survivors, or the loved ones of those who lost their lives. I just can’t fathom what would go through the mind of someone to do something like that.

It’s been a busy week here, but rather enjoyable. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous! I love fall!

Brian was off work Monday, so he helped me take Belle to the vet to be spayed. The vet we use is over half an hour one way, so it’s a bit of a road trip. Especially with a hyper dog. (Hyper on the way there. Not so much on the way back.)

We stopped for breakfast on our way home, then, came to the house to get school and work started. I also moved the bunnies from their pen to what we’re now referring to as the “big pen” – our screened in deck.

Around noon, Josh drove Brian to the Ford dealership to pick up his car – yes, the new (to us) one. The air went out a couple of weeks ago. Thank goodness it was covered under warranty!

Then, Brian took Megan’s car to get an oil change. Shortly thereafter, it was time to go pick up the dog with a stop by the bank and the electric company on the way.

When we got home, Brian had to change and head out for two softball games. Josh and Megan went and got take-out while I stayed home with Belle since she was still pretty groggy.

It was a busy, busy day.

On Tuesday, I made the ultimate bunny playground in the big pen with some things from the recycle bin. I’m not sure how impressed they were, but they do love being on the deck.

They’ve already gotten to the point where they greet me eagerly at the door of their pen in the mornings and don’t squirm at all when I pick them up. They know where I’m taking them and they can’t wait to get there.

They are really incredibly tame already. They’ll eat out of our hands and stand up on command. So cute!

My niece has really enjoyed visiting the bunnies when she comes over twice a week, too. I got some sidewalk chalk this week. That was a big hit, too. And, I made her a rice bin. Aunt Kris is pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Megan has been experimenting with special effects make-up. I’d show you some pictures, but she’s really good at it and she’s been working on making very realistic-looking gashes and gouged-out eyes, so I’ll keep the pictures to myself. You’re welcome.

I’m totally giving her elective credit for the make-up. She’s watched a lot of YouTube videos and studied how to make it realistic. She started out using just Elmer’s glue, toilet paper, and make-up.

We’ve since purchased corn syrup and red food coloring for realistic fake blood. Yesterday, UPS delivered our Amazon order of latex and spatulas for more authentic-looking sculpting of gaping wounds. Fun times, y’all. Fun times.

Josh has been doing some work on his car this week. On Wednesday, Brian’s dad took him to see a guy he knows who does work on cars to help Josh remove the muffler since we didn’t have the right tools. He also put a new exhaust pipe on it. You know, so it’s loud like guys like their cars. You should have seen the ear-to-ear grin.

As a mom, I have to say, it’s a pretty good muscle-car-sounding loud, not an obnoxious, neighbors-are-going-to-call-the-police loud.

I had to get Megan set up on my old laptop for math. Her laptop quit working. Josh got it working for awhile, but it’s still extremely slow if it does decide to load.

Those are the highlights of my week. I can’t wait to hear about yours!

  1. It’s so cool watching teens grow up, isn’t it? All their hundreds (and hundreds…) of different interests and passions. It’s an honour, really, being part of it all. I love parenting this age group 🙂
I love your little bunny rabbits! We used to have indoor/ uncaged bunnies growing up and one would stand at the door around 4 each afternoon waiting for me to come home. Every day, without fail. They are very like dogs and cats. We had Bunny1, Bunny 2 and Bunny 3….yes, Mum went all out to give them truly original names 😉

    1. The lady we got the bunnies from told us that her friend litter trained her bunny and it would run to the door to go out with the dogs. 🙂 We’re hoping to get ours litter trained and get to the point where we trust the dogs and cats with them with minimal supervision.

      1. All our were completely litter trained. Our only issue having them free all the time was that they ate the curtains. Bad for them, but okay for us so long as we didn’t draw them (the curtains not the rabbit) 🙂

  2. Do you keep the rice bin outside? I put rice in our water table before it became warm enough for water play, and every time my kids would walk away from it, the birds would come down and eat the rice!

    1. No, she played with it inside. Miraculously, she managed to contain most of the rice to the bin and the table.

  3. Aw, love a good bunny playground! Litter training isn’t too hard. They kind of do it naturally. And they’re smart. Ours knew “no” and would stop chewing on things and run back to their cage whenever we told them no. 🙂

  4. I love your bunny playground! I have tried that with our chickens, but I am afraid that the chicken brain is not up to the task…
My kids would love to see the makeup pictures – right up their alley! I guess my teenagers have stronger stomachs that their mom – they love the horrific images painted in Dante’s Inferno (we are reading it aloud these days and I have to go find something happy to do every time I am done reading as it just creeps me out!)
