Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday! I know it’s not officially fall yet, but it is finally starting to feel like fall here in the South and I love it! Fall is my favorite time of year. I just wish it lasted a bit longer because I am not a fan of winter. It’s been in the very low 60’s overnight, which makes for great running weather in the mornings.

The daytime highs still creep up to the upper 70’s, so it’s not totally fall-like, but still cool enough to keep the windows and doors (with screens) open and enjoy the fresh air and cool breezes.

Last Sunday, my baby turned 13. It feels a little weird being a mom to all teens now, but I’ve thought of Megan as an unofficial teen for months now, so it’s not completely strange. The funniest thing to me is Megan and her make-up. When Brianna turned 13 (our family’s age for being allowed to wear make-up), she wore it for a little while, then, got to the point where she only wore it for special occasions or when she felt like fooling with it, which wasn’t (and still isn’t) especially often.

Birthday 13

(The birthday girl with make-up that was, thankfully, subtle enough for Mom, so no Sunday morning battle of wills was necessary.)

So far, Megan is just like I was at her age. (I told y’all she is my mini-me.) She won’t leave the house without it now that she can wear it. I seriously had to talk her down from putting on a whole face full of make-up just to go to Chick-Fil-A Wednesday. We were going right after gymnastics (too sweaty for make-up) and coming home right after.

Seriously. Just like I was at her age.

As a matter of fact, when I was 13 or 14, we lived at the top of this steep hill, with only a total of 3 houses. The steepness slowed people down, but it still didn’t take long to climb – easily less than 5 minutes.

One day, my BFF and I looked out my bedroom window and saw two cute boys from school getting ready to walk up our hill. We – gasp – didn’t have make-up on! We did by the time they got to the front of my house, though. Fastest make-up application ever. And, of course, we just happened to walk outside as they got to my house. {ahem}

Other than the birthday, it’s been a rather uneventful week. I did co-host a homeschooling high school webinar with Lee Binz, The Homescholar, on Tuesday night. Were you able to attend? It was recorded, so I’ll post the link to the recording as soon as it’s available, so you can listen if you weren’t able to attend.

I’m also really excited about an art class for kids that I signed Megan up for. It’s supposed to be for kids, but I think Megan and I are going to do it together because I really enjoy drawing and painting. I just don’t make time for it as often as I’d like. It will be some good mother-daughter time, I think.

Those are the highlights of my week. Nothing too exciting, but that’s okay. I like ordinary.

  1. Love that story about teen you. Definitely sounds familiar! I was more of a late starter, but I’m thinking my 10 year old is going to be into things a lot earlier than I was. Gulp. Megan looks really beautiful, but then so did she last week without her make up!

    1. That was such a sweet comment, Lucinda. Thank you so much. I think she looks beautiful with or without makeup, too. Of course, I’m the mom, so I’m probably biased. 🙂

  2. Congratulations on three teenagers! I have two now, and I really am enjoying this stage of life. I do wonder what it will be like when my younger girls hit that age also.

    My oldest daughter can wear make up but rarely does. I think my #3 will be the one who loves it, and she’s a gymnast also. 🙂
