Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! It’s hard to believe another week is over. This one seemed to fly by. We’ve been busy with school, household projects, and prom prep.

Prom is two weeks from today. If you recall, last year Megan decided to go the Sunday before prom. Well, in her defense, we weren’t going to let her go since she was only in 8th grade, but a sweet family friend invited her. It was his senior prom and we love him and his family, so we let her go.

It was a crazy, whirlwind week, but for someone like me, it was less stressful than planning things in advance because it was just a “jump in and get it done” kind of thing.

This year, we have time to make appointments for hair, makeup, and nails. {sigh}

This week, we had to shop for shoes since the ones Brianna had that we thought would work did not. We hit the jackpot, though, and found the perfect pair at the first place we stopped.

We went to the mall while we were out and somehow came home with Megan’s cartilage pierced. She’s been wanting to do it for awhile. I had told her she had to wait until she was 16, but I thought it would look cute for prom, so I gave in. The funny thing is, my niece got hers pierced the same day. It wasn’t planned and neither knew the other was doing it.

Thursday, she went tux shopping with her boyfriend, his mom, and his sister. I think the only thing left to do is order the flowers.

Meanwhile, around the house, Brian has been redoing our privacy fence. If the weather holds out, we’re hoping he’ll complete it this weekend or next. The part he has completed looks fantastic! I can’t wait to see the finished product. It’s something I’ve been asking him to do for two years, so I’m really excited.

I went to my room to take a power nap the other day and this is what I found in my spot.

Josh chose to do a creative writing assignment this week. His story was really good. It was about a boy who got hit by a car and had to go through intense rehab. His best friend was a huge source of inspiration and encouragement.

The boy recovered and he and his friend spent the next several years rock climbing every chance they got – until they were both killed in a rock slide.

What the heck?

I told Josh it was a good story until the end. He basically said he got tired of writing and he didn’t know how to end the story, but at least they died doing what they loved.

Boys. He cracks me up.

I finally gave in to the hype and bought myself an Instant Pot. I almost bought one at Christmas. I should have since they were on sale then.

So far I’ve only done the recommended initial test run (in other words, I boiled water) and made hard-boiled eggs. Next week, after my grocery store run, I plan to make at least one full meal in it (a recipe for pork chops, rice, and veggies that I saw online) and try my hand at yogurt. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  1. I am so not letting Lillie read about your daughter having her cartilage pierced! She is desperate to have it done. I’d be fine with it (I have too many holes in my own ears to have any right to an opinion about her’s) but Gary is adamant she has to wait until she is 16. Needless to say she will be very jealous 🙂
I didn’t know you could make yogurt in a pressure cooker….interesting – I make mine in the slow cooker and by wrapping it in a heap of towels over night. I’m guessing a pressure cooker would keep it at the right temperature without the need for towels? Please do share how it goes. I might be tempted….

    1. It has a slow cooker and a yogurt feature, so I don’t think it uses the pressure cooker settings for the yogurt. I’ve never made homemade yogurt, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.

And, yes, we were going to wait until 16, too, but that’s only a few months away, so I gave in.

  2. Just wanted to share that my family moved to a new state that has Chick-fil-A last week and we totally tried it for the first time (sweet tea included, obvi) bc of you! 🙂
